But Women Don’t Want to Be Silent!
One brave woman on Facebook is continually speaking truth on her newsfeed. One day she wrote:
WHO HAS A PROBLEM WITH THIS SCRIPTURE?
1 Corinthians 14:34-35 ~ 34 – Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
Of course, more than a few feminists had a big problem with these verses.
“A scripture taken out of context too often! It does NOT mean that women are not to preach, there are many WOMEN who HAVE been called to preach!!!!”
This women was then provided with multiple verses showing her error in thinking but finally she responded without using any Scripture in any of her arguments this way: “Hmmm, looks like you women on here are the ones who should remain silent!!!! Look who started this post in the first place! Maybe you should study where it says to not touch the anointed or since you love to take scripture out of context, throw the judging scripture at me while you’re at it! You started this to start a debate!” Whatever that means. If they can’t back up what they believe, they shoot the messenger, as I am well aware of, since it happens to me often.
Then a wise woman named Amanda wrote the following and nailed it:
Let’s look at the qualifications of a pastor (bishop) as laid out in 1 Timothy 3…
This is a true saying, If a MAN desire the office of a bishop, HE desireth a good work.
A bishop then must be blameless, the HUSBAND OF ONE WIFE, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
One that ruleth well HIS own house, having HIS children in subjection with all gravity;
(For if a MAN know not how to RULE HIS OWN HOUSE, how shall HE take care of the church of God?)
Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride HE fall into the condemnation of the devil.
1 Timothy 3:1-6 (emphasis added).
Doesn’t seem a woman can fulfill all those requirements, can she?
Just because our lukewarm society has decided it’s okay to give women a “license” to preach (which, by the way, we don’t see in Scripture anyway), that doesn’t mean it’s okay by God’s standards.
Women saying they should be able to preach/lead over men reminds me of JEZEBEL, which calleth HERSELF a prophetess!
Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, **to teach** and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
Revelation 2:20

In my own household there has been sooo much more peace since I have quit trying to teach or preach at my husband. I watch myself that I try not to even hint at it. It takes the grace of God for me to do this!
Excellent post!! A member of my extended family calls herself a Pastor. I have shared many scriptures as to why this is not biblical, but she has not shared one scripture in defense of her position. I am finding out she is quite ignorant of what the Bible says, and relies on the teachings of others who are like- minded on this issue. Well, God’s Word is settled in heaven. It is our sure foundation on this and all things pertaining to life and godliness. Thanks for sharing this today, Lori.

Like someone said above, my household has been so much better since I stopped trying to teach my husband and instead asked his opinion instead. Women in the pulpit leads to nothing but heresy and ruined families – never anything good.

I had a female pastor, who I reconsiled at the time by saying, “No, she’s just the Pastor’s wife who happens to preach sometimes.”
She played a video of a speech she did, saying she was super proud of it. She said that before she spoke, she asked God to speak through her.
The video was terrible though. The speech was, shall I say, very feminist. And when talking to her on a regular basis I could tell that she felt something was off about her being a preacher. She kept always defending it, and asking people’s feelings about it.
None the less, a seed was planted, and I started “asking God to speak through me” before tough conversations. Turns out, I am thinking it may not have been God speaking through me at all.
That’s why I turned to the Bible to see if “God speaking through” is really even in there, and I got to this chapter. 1 Corinthians 14. Basically saying it’s up to the men to do the prophecy.
The man was meant to be head of household, and Eve reversed it by “convincing” Adam, but only because she was lead to by an anti-God source. So people can say they were spoken to, lead to, spoken through, inspired by, anything. And it may not be God at all
I’m learning that even in the craziest most heart wrenching conversations, that silence is alright. I was raised to believe the opposite, to keep talking, to never leave a conversation unfinished, to stand up, fight, be bold, etc. But I just don’t get very far with that! And I need another way!
So I think, I can be silent. Like the Bible says to be.
So I went to do an image search, for inspiration, and it led me to a lot of really negative images about women’s silence. As in, they are so mad, they are so hurt, maybe sure, but maybe they are calm, happy, at peace with Jesus, maybe they are listening with love, maybe they just have a sore throat!
The world has swung soooo far in the opposite of this passage that it is sad.
In fact I have really been practicing silence, and people get freaked out by it. They think something is so wrong, and why are you not telling them! And even if you say “No, I am just fine.” That’s even worse:-P
But the Bible says don’t be of the world. And there is something soooo freeing in not having to speak and defend, and fight, and express. Just to be able to be still, and know the HE IS LORD.
So I will keep practicing and I will be inspired by the Bible and articles like this. TY
