Empowering Women By Disobeying God’s Word?

Empowering Women By Disobeying God’s Word?

There is a new president of the Southern Baptist Convention. Sadly, he supports female preachers. “The reality is that complementarianism is in the process of being redefined. J.D. Greear teaches that women can preach even in the church. He will likely be elected the next President of the SBC and has already called for ‘a new era’ of complementarianism,” wrote Pastor Tom Buck. The thinking behind this is that women need to be “empowered.”

How is breaking God’s commands empowering women? Empower means “to give legal or moral power or authority to.” God doesn’t empower women to have authority over men or teach them so why should anyone who claims to be a believer in Jesus Christ? God is clear in His Word that women are to be silent in the churches, that it is a shame for them to speak in the churches, and they are not to have authority over men nor teach them.

“Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church” (1 Corinthians 14:34, 35). “Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church” (1 Timothy 2:11, 12).

All this empowering of women is doing is weakening the churches and causing them to become lukewarm. We can’t live in direct disobedience to the Lord and expect anything good to come out of it! I don’t understand how women who study the Word of God can think that their preaching to men is okay. I have heard the argument that if the male leadership of a church thinks it’s okay, then it’s okay. God is our final authority, not the leaders of the churches.

I have a great desire to obey the Word of God as closely as possible. I seek to be as pure and holy as I can and please the Lord in everything. I don’t want to do anything that is against the clear teachings of God or live a compromising Christian life. Yes, I fail at times, but my desire is to obey God in everything. I don’t need to be “empowered” by teaching in the churches. I only want to be empowered by His Holy Spirit for the ministry that He has clearly given to me, namely teaching younger women biblical womanhood. I will not learn from anyone who has no problems disobeying God by teaching men and watering down God’s Word to mean something that it does not. I prefer to learn the Bible from men since God ordained them to be the elders of the churches and teach the Word.

So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of my mouth.
Revelation 3:16

  1. Thank you, thank you, thank you for standing on the Word of God. Right now there is a movement to empower women and destroy men and their God given roles. That same movement is being brought into the churches as well, sadly. We are not to be conformed to this world and it’s patterns. And you are so right. It is causing lukewarmness in the churches today.

  2. Hi Lori, I still don’t have your book.? Do you ship to Western Australia? Forgive me if I have asked this before – this year has had me spend more time at hospitals than all the years of my almost 60 years!?

    Thank you and love Jilly ? ❤️ ?❤️ ?

  3. Powerful truth. We are called to be silent. Our church does not permit female soloists for this reason. Ladies are permitted to sing but only as part of congregational hymns. My husband prefers that I keep conversation to the absolute minimum in church, as a sign of deference to the Word.

We do have challenges getting our girls to understand this – especially our 4 year old. We are teaching her the proper role for women in all things and she is such a help with the babies (2, 1 and expecting in August). But how can I help her understand that she must be silent as we sit in fellowship? We have services twice on Sunday and Wednesday.

Soul winning Tuesday and Saturday is fine because she loves to talk about her savior!

  4. I am just so baffled by how these Bible teachers get around 1 Cor. 14 and 1 Tim. 2. It’s just so starkly clear, it’s undeniable. So sad. Thanks for encouraging us in the truth, Mrs. Lori!

  5. Lori – can you please write about how to teach our girls to keep silent at church during their growing up years? Do the Pearls talk about this? This is a topic that I don’t find much practical guidance on – God’s word is clear, but I could use some pointers on how best to explain it and what to do to make this hard lesson easier. Since this pertains to teaching a young lady, your guidance can help many.

  6. Oh, so disappointing to hear. I guess not too surprising after reading what you posted about the SBC last week. It’s always so heartbreaking to see denomination after denomination heading down this pathway of sin and destruction.

  7. We have bounced from church to church looking for a church that follows the bible. A year ago, we gave up and started watching service on TV. Churches will not speak about a wife’s role as a helpmate to her husband. I guess they feel it will alienate half their worshipers?
Also, we live in the south and were shocked to see so many female vocalists wearing short skirts, sleeveless tops and sandals. I belief they should be a little more conservative in their dress.

In the fall, we’ll try again to find a church home. Our search has been very frustrating.

  8. It seems to be happening in almost every church, Debra. Even the older women who I respected are now watering down their view of women speaking in the churches and I find it very disheartening. We must keep speaking the truth in love because true godly women who have hearts that want to live in obedience to the Word will trust that God knows what is best for us, even if it means being quiet in the churches.

  9. Keep speaking the truth to your children, Ava. They are rather young but you can train them to sit silently for a few minutes at a time, then add a few more minutes each day or week. It’s a great discipline to develop for church and in other things. Years ago, a family with many children ranging from ages 2 to 17 came to our church. They all sat quietly the entire church service. We were all so impressed!

  10. You’re welcome! I never want to be accused by the Lord of adding or subtracting to His Word. It’s a fearful thing to be a teacher of His Word.

  11. It is heartbreaking, Diana. I just don’t understand how so many have fallen under feminism’s influence instead of following the perfect Word of God.

  12. Churches today seem to be more concerned about being “relevant” than adhering to the truth of God’s Word. Keep seeking the Lord and asking Him for wisdom in finding a church family. He will provide!

  13. Our children (there’s 10 of them!) practice sitting quietly by doing Bible time every morning. They know now that sitting quietly is expected of them. I just make sure bathroom trips happen beforehand and once bible time begins, that’s it. They may shuffle in their seat occasionally, but both my girls and my boys (6girls, 15,11,5,4,almost 2 & 4 months, 4 boys 12,9,8,7) know to keep quiet. If they don’t, we make them stand during bible time. A good deterrant for being too noisy. Start with small blocks of time, then work up. It also works for doctors offices etc as well! And we rarely have a problem. Of course, you give some grace to younger ones, but my 4 year old and up are capable. ?

  14. The churches of Christ are not perfect but generally (especially in the South) you will not find women speaking in church service and there is still an attempt to adhere to scripture in many ways. You may want to give them a try or possibly the Missionary Alliance church.

  15. This spirit in the SBC is the same spirit that is telling us to take M and F off of birth certificates.

This spirit is the same spirit that thinks transgender restrooms are OK.

This is the same spirit that is the source of rational for so-called ‘same-sex marriage’ …a dismantling of God’s design of marriage.

This spirit ORIGINATED in the church, with God’s people and is in ALL the church to some material degree.

This spirit is the spirit of Jezebel.

This spirit has chosen death ….for their father is Lucifer, the “I will be like the most high” spirit.

This spirit is the illness; all else is simply the symptoms.

  16. Hope you find a good church soon Diana! Even though churches may not be completely perfect (in small things, I mean) it’s still better than nothing, because the body of Christ needs each other to grow properly. And that includes being able to get along well with brothers and sisters of differing convictions (again in the small things, not major doctrine!)

  17. I am new I just joined your Facebook page and Iam following you. You are right about everything you say. I’ve looked it all up in the Bible. Also on a post I told people if they don’t like what you have to say then stop trolling your fb page and following it. I can’t believe the nasty comments that are posted. What book do you have out cause I would love to read it. I think you have excellent posts about honoring God and your husbands.

  18. Hi, I have just read your comment, and want to tell you that I also have six girls and four boys! But older.. my eldest daughter is 34 and my youngest son is almost 19.☺You do it better with your children than I have done when they were small! I also love and serve the Lord Jesus, and so does most of my children, by God’s grace. I ‘m so grateful to have stumbled upon these posts by Lori! (I am from South Africa)
