Feminism Has Made Life Harder For Women

“Russians by and large adhere to relatively strict gender roles: women are expected to dress well and take care of themselves, to want many babies, to act as the center of the household, and to be very ladylike, while men are expected to carry all the financial responsibility, protect the honor of their women, carry heavy loads, and drive the car.” This is from an article called Why Do Most Russian Women Hate Feminism.

“The obvious question here is: how did this intense aversion to feminism develop? The answer begins, as it often does, in the Bolshevik Revolution. In 1917, Russia became one of the first places in the world to give women the right to vote, and egalitarianism was promoted as one of the great ideals of the revolution.”

Most women today believe that women having the right to vote was a GREAT accomplishment that has given them freedom! Did you know that in early America, most women didn’t want to vote? In fact, many women fought against the Women’s Suffrage Movement. They could easily foretell the danger of this movement. They wanted the men to be in charge of the vote and politics, while they cared for their homes and children.

“Like many of those ideals, however, it was somewhat of an illusion. Women were still expected to take care of all the domestic duties, but now they had to take on the burden of labor as well…The overwhelming load that women now had to carry was expressed in the rhyming Russian saying, ‘I’m both a horse and a bull, I’m both a woman and a man,’ which echoes the complaints made by my mother and her friends when they used to tiredly grumble, ‘Before feminism, all you had to do was be a good wife and mother. Now you have to do everything.'”

You’ve been lied to, women. Unfortunately, the churches haven’t corrected the lies for most women, since it would offend them too much. While they should be convicted when they are taught the ways of biblical womanhood, they are offended instead and try to shut down those who teach it. They call biblical womanhood “dangerous” when in reality, it’s feminism that is dangerous and has caused destruction on our culture.

Learn from the Russian women! They are going back to what they were created to do by their loving Creator. They love being wives and mothers at home. Many of you write to me often telling me how thankful you are to be home full time. God’s ways are perfect. At the end of this post, I’m sharing a writing by a young 21 year old wife and mother. She is wise beyond her years.

That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
Titus 2:4, 5

The Suppression of Women

? “Men can be women. Women can be men. A masculine woman is a woman. A woman is a societal construct. A woman is anyone who feels like a woman.”

? Everywhere we turn, we are force fed the idea that in the western world, women are oppressed; in the media, in the workplace, in organizations, even in the Church!

? I happen to think what we *really* are as women is: suppressed, rather than oppressed.

? Suppression of women comes under the guise of liberation. In order to be liberated, it turns out, women must suppress all that is natural within them. The submissive nature is overpowered by a rebellious spirit. The desire to nurture, love and protect children has turned into the fight to kill babies, the repulsion of children, and the glorification of child-free living.

? Rather than the peaceful life of quiet homemaking, women are encouraged to live the stressful lives of career “boss-babes”. Instead of working hard in the home, they work hard anywhere BUT the home. A successful woman is no longer she who is chaste, kind, pure, loving and respectful of her parents, or husband and children, but rather, she who gives her virginity away to a man who is not her husband, who is brash and angry (under the guise of being strong and empowered), who rebels against her parents or elders due to their seemingly antiquated ideas, and who can make the funniest child-bashing and husband belittling jokes.

? The natural cycle that prepares our bodies to carry life, and detoxes it once a month, is destroyed with the use of contraception and sterilisation. Instead of loving God and others, we are told to love and prioritize ourselves. All that is good and right in this world, we are told, like a husband providing for his family, is actually just oppression, and all that is contrary to God’s design for women, we are told, is liberating. How did we get here?

? This suppression has to do with the suppression of men, first and foremost, because if masculinity is subdued, who is left to lead women? When women are left to their own devices and are not led and corrected by strong, loving, God-fearing and truth-speaking men, chaos ensues (see Adam and Eve).

  1. This is spot on. My husband leads and provides for our family and I love the fact that I’m under his protection. I’m not the perfect wife (always trying to improve) but to feel so treasured and taken care of is something precious to me. I can’t understand why women want anything else. As for freedom, I am way more free than I would ever be working 9 to 5 for a paycheck. My days are my own to do what I want and it is a pleasure to care for the people I love most. My husband and I are a team with clearly defined roles, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

  2. It really is amazing how opposite our thinking has become to a woman’s true nature. Recently I read an article in which a female doctor (an alumna of my college) had started a business offering birth control pill prescriptions and delivery online. The kicker was that at one point she recommended that women consider skipping the placebo week because “it isn’t natural for a woman to menstruate every month of her adult life—naturally it would be suppressed by pregnancy and breastfeeding”!!
Also, when my sister was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, I looked up risk factors—they included being over 25 years old! Everyone in the medical field seems to know that women should be marrying/having children earlier, but medical facts and science don’t seem to matter any more…

  3. Feminism is part of individualism. We “define ourselves” as individuals, based on our fleshly feelings and appetites. Other people only come into the picture as far as they influence our getting what we want.

Rather than embracing our identity as God’s children, followers of Christand accepting our place in submission to God with all the responsibility and challenges contained in this role, we try to keep only what appeals to us, defining ourselves as “individuals who are of faith”, or something similarly vague.

Rather than embracing our roles as wives, submitting to our husbands, seeing ourselves as an inseparable unit, we define ourselves as “individuals, who happen to be married, but are definitely still entitled to lives of our own”.

Rather than embracing our identity as mothers, we define ourselves as “individuals who chose to have children, because it makes us feel good”.

These are just a few examples. It’s why worldly friends don’t understand why you suddenly can’t spend six hours a week on the phone with them once you’re married, or spontaneously visit them for a few days without your spouse. Or why you, as a single person should ask your parents’ permission before going anywhere late at night or on weekends. For a while this caused me to think I needed to become more independent, but now I see that embracing feminist individualism undermines and destroys all valuable relationships. I would trade my identities and roles in relation to others for any individualist pseudo-freedom in the world!

  4. I have been taught to study well so I can have a good job in the future. For most of my life, I worked towards these expectations. I am now a sophomore college student. A few years ago, I reflected on myself and realized that what I really wanted was to be a full-time housewife, to have a home and family I can nurture and call my own. The Lord has allowed me to stumble upon the Transformed Wife’s Facebook posts. I now see that it is God’s original design for women to be homemakers, not breadwinners. This fact has honestly given me a sort of relief. I don’t know what to do as of now, but I continue to pray that He will guide me to a Godly man who I can love and respect.

  5. To most men, feminism is mostly just funny.

“She wants to work, so I can slack off and play video games? Ummmm…okay!”

Feminists always argue about this, claiming that men must work ALSO. But so far they’ve never demonstrated any system that can force men to work when we don’t want to.

We can just walk away. Let the women starve. Let society collapse. Or better yet, we’ll go to Morocco or Vietnam and find a nice young poor girl who is very grateful indeed to have a husband.

Actually feminism isn’t “funny”. It’s really quite stupid.

  6. Russian women are on average less feminist than Western women, as is Russian society. Russia is, ironically, now more socially conservative than the United States. Much more, in fact.

However, they have low average birth rates –sub-replacement level – low birth rates are a sign of feminism. When a people doesn’t even reproduce themselves, it is a sign of feminism even if it isn’t the radical activist women shouting in the streets type of feminism.

God blessed us to be fruitful and multiply. The Russian Church is attempting (I think) to restore the once ubiquitous (Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox) Christian aversion to artificial contraception. They are also reemphasizing chastity before marriage with a special emphasis on female chastity (men should be chaste too).

  7. Birth control, especially hormonal birth control, is how feminism enslaved women. It destroys the natural harmony of our bodies, separates us from our womanhood, poisons our wombs, and turns a woman into a serial abortionist of her own babies.

We all have opportunities to rescue loved ones from the tyranny and evil of birth control. Hormonal birth control has an Achilles heal. It is susceptible to heat and cold. 15 hours at 125 Fahrenheit is all it takes to turn the combination pill into a harmless placebo. The mini pill is ineffective at 10 hours. You can break it up over several days. If you have a sister or daughter or niece or granddaughter who is married and on the pill, you can find an excuse and an opportunity to get some “alone time” with her birth control and free her mind and body from its poison.

  8. Godless communism almost destroyed their country. It is no surprise they hunger for something better.

  9. I agree 100%!!!! My husband takes care of me and I belong to him. I am very “girly” and ladylike. He takes care of all the business, financial and other responsibilities. I take care of our home and still have a great deal of free time to do whatever I want. I wouldn’t want it any other way. And yes, he ALWAYS drives the car. Sometimes I go a week without driving.

  10. Wouldn’t the more mature and honest thing to do as an adult woman is to have a conversation with her about the dangers of birth control and why she is taking it, and providing the research and alternatives rather than sneaking around? This is really strange “advice” to me.

  11. This is a very true article Lori. My wife and I used to be friendly with a Russian couple. The wife was extremely glamourous: she wore new outfits everyday, high heels, jewellery and make-up as she said he husband expected her to look beautiful. Also, she was extremely loyal and loving to him. My own wife, who also likes to look nice, used to admit that she felt dowdy in comparison! Our friends used to say that all women in Russia liked to be slim and well dressed for their husbands and they could not believe how badly dressed and shabby most British women were. Apparently, in Russia, they would be ostracised for not making the best of their appearance. From what I could gather from our friends women (and men) were a lot happier with the clearly defined gender roles. I know a lot of people in the West dislike Vladimir Putin but I think he has done a lot of good work in returning Russia to a more socially conservative country – similar to how Britain and America were in The Fifties before the permissive society took a hold.

  12. Indeed. The more I study and read the news about modern Russia and other former soviet blocs, the more I see how these aren’t the same communist countries. They may not be a Christian nation nor claim to be protestant, but surely they put the US to shame in moral behavior and in almost everything else. We are living in bizarre times.

It reminds me of how God used to bless the enemies of Jerusalem when Israel turned her back on God to cause them jealousy. And now the US is THAT Israel in a figurative way. Our acts as a nation are indicating the destructive path, we have been hastily taking for so long. Now it’s just a matter of little time left.
