God is Using the Seeds I Planted

When I began writing for my blog almost nine years ago, I had no aspirations of going big. Here’s my first blog post: Correction Versus Criticism. I knew I wasn’t a good writer but I LOVED to teach. I always have since I was little. There was a young woman I had been mentoring who was a new believer and she was moving away. I began the blog for her. I wanted to keep mentoring her through my blog. I wanted her to grow strong in the Lord and in His ways.

I started a Facebook page soon afterwards. Ken challenged me to get 100 “likes” which I thought was laughable. When I received 80 “likes,” my son-in-law asked in all sincerity, “What eighty people want to learn from you?” I agreed with him. I had no idea since I wasn’t a good writer.

I planted a tiny seed and God watered it. I had no idea that years later, a few of my writings would go viral. A few of them made national and international news. I have been asked to give interviews and have live debates with people. I’m not into any of those kinds of things. I simply want to teach women the ways of the Lord as God has commanded that I do.

Some of you may wonder what I did to grow such a large audience. I didn’t do anything but write while being consistent with the Word of God. There’s no magic formula to it and it doesn’t matter if you have two people learning from you or thousands. God will use you, women. Young women need you. They aren’t hearing biblical womanhood from anyone. Model it to them. Plant seeds of truth whenever you can.

God didn’t ask us to make converts. He asked us to make disciples. As you teach the young women in your life, you are making disciples. They need to know God’s Word. They need to study it for themselves; for in it are the ways to abundant life. We are taught how to raise our children in His Word. We are taught how to be godly wives. We are taught how we should dress, act, and speak. All that we need for life and godliness are in His Word.

“A college woman’s question underscores the timeliness of Titus 2 discipleship: ‘How can I think biblically about my womanhood when I am constantly told that independence is power, to determine my own destiny, pursue my own dreams, and that gender distinctiveness is just a social construct?’ My answer: ‘Go to the women’s ministry in your church and ask godly women to speak the truth of womanhood into your life as a counterpoint to the lies you are hearing. Ask them to spiritually mother you.'” (“Spiritual Mothering” by Susan Hunt) Spiritually mother other women. There is a great need for this and this is God’s calling on older women’s lives.

Teach your children His ways, young women. Continually plant seeds of truth into their lives. Children have the most teachable hearts. Let them see the goodness of His ways as you joyfully serve Him. Raise godly offspring. There’s no greater responsibility than this. Your ministry is in the home. When your children are older, then you can have ministry outside of the home but while you have young children, your ministry is as a help meet to your husband, a mother to your children, and a keeper at home. This is good and it is enough.

It’s tempting to want fame and fortune through social media, but this pursuit will take time away from what God has called you to do. There’s a reason that God calls older women to teach the young women. We have the time and the experience. Hopefully, we have the wisdom, too. Be content with what God has called you to do. Raising godly offspring is a full-time ministry, but the fruit of it can’t be beat. There’s no greater joy than seeing your children walk in truth.

The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,  To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
Titus 2:3-5

***If you are an older woman and would love to mentor young women but don’t know where to begin, I wrote my book Biblical Womanhood: A Study Guide for this purpose.

  1. Certainly this world needs better models than half naked women stating they are “empowered” before the innocent eyes of children. Every town needs an army of godly wives, compassionate mothers, tender and wise grandmothers, moving around with elegance and modesty, helping around with discretion, encouraging their husbands, modeling the real virtues for their children and those children who otherwise would never know what a godly family looks like. Yes, the world is looking and hoping that we fail. But we know that we are called to be the sweet perfume of Christ wherever we’ve been placed. Thank you for your work, Lori. There’s a reward in heaven for you.

  2. Thank you and amen, Raquel! Yes, our culture needs an army of godly women but it won’t happen unless older women step up to the plate and teach what God has commanded that they teach.

  3. Thank you for beginning your blog! I found it approximately 4 years ago, and have been very blessed by it. I have had a hard time finding a mentor in my area, and therefore want to be one for younger women who are looking for guidance. You have constantly encouraged and uplifted me. Thanks so much for that!

  4. Thank you for your obedience through the years. I have learned so much! I think I’ve been reading your blogs daily for around 5-7 years. They have been a blessing to me. Thank you for your article this morning as well. I keep wondering if I should openly teach other women but my own children aren’t grown yet. While I think I have good things to say I know I haven’t proven myself with mature Godly offspring. This article confirms that I should continue my current course and wait to see later if God opens that door.

  5. Lori, in this article, you had a great recommendation for a young woman seeking ways to overcome the onslaught of the world’s teaching about women: ‘Go to the women’s ministry in your church and ask godly women to speak the truth of womanhood into your life as a counterpoint to the lies you are hearing. Ask them to spiritually mother you.’”

Where does one find this group of godly women in the church?
Any women’s group I have ever attempted to participate in REINFORCES the premise of the strong, independent, EMPOWERED woman. To “look deep inside our “SELF” so as to be all God wants YOU to be and has in His plan for YOU”!
I dont mean to be negative. Truly I dont. I’m just discouraged.

But having said that, Lori, I do want to thank you. Finding your blog over a year ago was a real tipping point for me as a Christian woman. For a long time I had felt a longing and urging to be a full time stay at home wife and keeper of the home. I knew what Scripture says about it, but I lacked both encouragement and courage! Just the other day one of my very close Christian girlfriends made a snide comment about “all you do is stay home”!
That remark stung a bit, but I am standing in Truth. And this community helps me do that!

  6. I’ve always wanted to be a wife, mother, and homemaker. I thought that my desires were wrong since I grew up hearing the opposite message. Then I read your teachings about Titus 2:4-5 and 1 Timothy 5:14. What a great relief when I truly understood that my desires are God’s as well. It’s His perfect will!

You are a blessing, Lori. Thank you for the seeds you planted. They are being used mightily by the Lord.

  7. I’m so glad you started this blog Lori, God used it to show me what true biblical womanhood is. I wasn’t raised in a Christian home and I was saved in my mid twenties so I constantly had the feminist lie drilled down my throat by my mother, the tv, friends, family and everywhere I went. The funny thing is I remember when I was a little girl my hearts desire was to grow up, marry a nice man and have babies but because everyone and everything was pushing against that desire I put it on the back burner. Praise God he is merciful and restored the years that the locusts ate, now I’m married to my wonderful husband, we have a sweet lively little boy who’s almost one and we just found out we are pregnant with our second… glory to God!! Thank you for your faithfulness over the years Sister Lori! May God continue to bless you and your ministry to reach many more women with the truth.

  8. Just wanted to say thank you also. I already did some of the things that you taught but I was not as strong in them and I definitely did not honor my husband the way I should have. My biggest regret is that I did not find your blog before we made the worldly decision to not have any more children.
But thank you for being so strong!
