It’s Time For Christians to Rebel and Have Lots of Children!

There’s an article in The Gospel Coalition called It’s Time for a New Culture War Strategy by Kevin Deyoung. I am not a fan of TGC and do not recommend them since I see them compromising on a lot of issues, but I do like many things stated in this article. Here are a few excerpts that I completely agree with:

“Here’s a culture war strategy conservative Christians should get behind: have more children and disciple them like crazy. Strongly consider having more children than you think you can handle. You don’t have to be a fertility maximalist to recognize that children are always lauded as a blessing in the Bible.

“As I’ve said before, in the not-too-distant future, the only couples replacing themselves in America will be religious couples…The basic reason countries stop having children is because they’ve come to see offspring as a liability rather than a source of hope. As Christians, we know better.

“Do you want to rebel against the status quo? Do you want people to ask you for a reason for the hope that is in you (1 Peter 3:15)? Tote your brood of children through Target. There is almost nothing more counter-cultural than having more children. And once we have those children, there is almost nothing more important than catechizing them in the faith, developing their moral framework, and preparing them to be deeply compassionate lovers of God and lovers of people and relentlessly biblical lovers of truth.

“Let us welcome new life and give our children that best opportunity for new birth. Presidents and Supreme Court justices will come and go. A child’s soul will last forever. The future belongs to the fecund. It’s time for happy warriors who seek to ‘renew the city’ and ‘win the culture war’ by investing in their local church, focusing on the family, and bringing the kingdom to bear on the world, one baby at a time.”

God gave us the command to be fruitful and multiply. He’s never taken away that command. He wants young women to marry, bear children, and guide the home. The Bible calls children a blessing and happy is the man who has a quiver full. He tells us that the purpose of marriage is to raise godly offspring. The majority of believers today were raised in godly homes. This is how we build the remnant. Children are good, bring joy into our lives, and are eternal beings. Treasure them, women. Pray that the Lord will bless your womb and be diligent to raise them up in the ways of the Lord.

Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
Psalm 127:3-5

  1. I love this! I can’t wait to be a mom. I hope for at least 4 children but I’d prefer 6 or 7. Valuing motherhood really is counter culture these days. It’s so disgusting how people my age are proud to hate children, they say it like it makes them special. And women casually joke about wanting their womb removed as if giving birth to life is a curse instead of a gift and all women talk about is how all pregnancy does it ruin your body, as if vanity is more satisfying than devoting yourself to a husband and children. One of the many perks of being a more traditionally minded young woman is that i can make people mad just by living my life the way that makes me happy. All I have to say is that nothing would make me happier than to be a homemaker and people my age lose their minds.

  2. I have four kids and they go everywhere I go. My oldest is only five. I feel like I don’t have that many (I’m one of 11 children) but it’s amazing how just having four kids with me gets me sympathetic looks or exclamations of shock from strangers in stores. It’s definitely countercultural.

  3. I agree. We’ve handed over the culture as Christians by not having lots of children. We could still turn this ship around if we do.

  4. Whenever I’m out with my Mom and baby brother, people always think I’m momma and she’s grandma and they’re always shocked when she says that all six of us are hers.

  5. Demography is destiny. Great article.

The entire purpose of the sex drive was for marriage and for children.

While I disagree with the Founder of Kellogg’s cereal on eugenics and sex for procreation alone in marriage, he was absolutely right about how badly sexual sin degenerates individuals and societies. When he wrote this, in 1879, it was very uncommon to hear a lot or engage in any form of sex outside of heterosexual marriage. Today, it is celebrated.

Note, how Kellogg copiously details the damaging effects of masturbation. Today’s elite bankers are terrified of a nation that refuses to have sex outside of marriage, and that has as many children as it can within heterosexual marriage. They are well aware that a nation like that will rise up and throw off the bankers shackles.

Note, when Pharoah wanted to weaken the Jews he killed their children, to reduce their fertility rate, and he worked them hard. Same thing today’s Satanic Democrats do with their promotion of homosexuality, transgenderism, contraception, masturbation, porn, fornication, psychotropic drugs, debauched entertainment, deranged celebrity idols, and abortion, to cut down on the birth rate, and their instituting regulations and taxes to make the people have to work harder.

    Dear Lord,

Deliver us from the tyranny of the Democrats, which is worse than any tyranny Pharoah imposed. And deliver us, individually and societally, from the tyranny of sin, which is a greater threat than any any human can ever pose to us.

    In Jesus name,

    Amen

  6. Whether you have 1 or 11, do not send your children to public schools. You are begging for them to be turned away from God and his ways.

  7. A pastor I listen to once said “God’s word says be fruitful and multiply. It does NOT say be fruitful and replace yourselves.” A light bulb went off for me and I dearly wish I had let God be in charge of my womb when I was in childbearing years! I have children but had I been taught this truth then and been taught to Better value motherhood (i started late due to my “career”) I feel certain God would have continued to bless us with more children. I have certainly instructed my daughter differently And she gets it. I keep praying that God will send her a Christian man to marry and raise children with!

  8. But remember those Christians among us who long to have children and cannot. Or have had babies who died. Pray for them. Send them a card or a plant. Be willing to lend a listening ear.

  9. I had 3 children back-to-back then 5 years later had a 4th and the negative comments were awful!
Questions like “don’t you know what causes that?” (meaning pregnancy) and “don’t you have a TV?” (no we don’t) to people outright saying I was mad and shouldn’t be having any more.
4 children is a big family in todays culture.

  10. It’s interesting how people will sometimes assume I’m put upon by my husband, as if having several kids wasn’t my desire. ?
If anyone asks me if I have a TV, I say, “If you think watching TV is more fun than making babies, you’re doing it wrong”.
    Usually shuts them up.
Having had 11 kids,my mom got tons of rude comments. A man at a lumber yard once asked her if her name was Bunny. I never understood why people take it upon themselves to make comments on something that’s clearly none of their business and doesn’t affect them.

  11. My view on this has changed over time in that I have always been absolutely at one with my husband in regarding birth control as a sin but it is only in more recent years that I have come to agree that we should not just reject the anti life promotion of birth control but also as Christians be very positive in taking the opposite path in actively praying for as many children as God gives us the opportunity to have.

  12. I have a biological child and have fostered a dozen children and adopted a little girl. My adopted daughter feels as if I carried her and bore her myself. I love and adore her just the same as I do my biological child. If God doesn’t bless your womb with babies maybe He’s pushing you to follow His command to take care of the fatherless. Maybe there are motherless children who need a godly and loving home to take them in, feed them, bathe them, clothe them and teach them the ways of the Lord. I have seen God make beauty from ashes and turn a child born from a sex trafficked drug addicted women who was raped and abused and take her drug addicted baby and place her in my arms. God gave her baby a home and a safe family and He gave us a daughter who we are blessed by every single day! Not all of our situations are typical but God can use you where you are! He can use your circumstances for his glory! Peace and grace dear sisters!

  13. You are storing many treasures in heaven and what a wonderful admonition that if women aren’t able to have their own children, there are many children out there who need a home.
