Sperm Count is Dropping Dramatically

Sperm Count is Dropping Dramatically

The NYT has an article entitled “What are Sperm Telling Us?” Here are some quotes from the article:

“Sperm counts have been dropping; infant boys are developing more genital abnormalities; more girls are experiencing early puberty; and adult women appear to be suffering declining egg quality and more miscarriages…Four years ago, a leading scholar of reproductive health, Shanna H. Swan, calculated that from 1973 to 2011, the sperm count of average men in Western countries had fallen by 59 percent. Inevitably, there were headlines about ‘Spermageddon’ and the risk that humans would disappear, but then we moved on to chase other shiny objects.

“Swan and other experts say the problem is a class of chemicals called endocrine disruptors, which mimic the body’s hormones and thus fool our cells. This is a particular problem for fetuses as they sexually differentiate early in pregnancy. Endocrine disruptors can wreak reproductive havoc. These endocrine disruptors are everywhere: plastics, shampoos, cosmetics, cushions, pesticides, canned foods and A.T.M. receipts. They often aren’t on labels and can be difficult to avoid.”

Many of our modern conveniences are great but at what cost? Are there things we can do about this? Yes! I know a couple who couldn’t get pregnant due to the husband’s low sperm count. He was put on a healthy, organic diet and months later, the wife was pregnant! I believe eating as much organic as possible is very important since organic food isn’t sprayed heavily with toxic chemicals like regular food is.

Even hand sanitizers are harmful to your health! There’s also a professor who is concerned with the many children getting leukemia these days. “And this issue is becoming an increasingly worrying problem. Parents, for laudable reasons, are raising children in homes where antiseptic wipes, antibacterial soaps and disinfected floorwashes are the norm. Dirt is banished for the good of the household.” You don’t need to be the perfect, spotless housekeeper who fears germs!

I asked the women in the chat room what non-toxic products they used and one woman gave this great list.

We must do all we can to protect the reproducing ability of our children. This impacts future generations, therefore, we must be as wise as serpents. Do your research. Eat as healthy as you can and use products that aren’t harming your children’s ability to have their own children.

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
1 Corinthians 6:19,20

  1. This is fantastic! Thank you! My very favorite all purpose cleaner is: 3/4 c water, 3/4 c vinegar, squirt of witch hazel (prevents streaks), and 2 droppers of thieves (or a homemade immunity blend). I have used it to clean our kitchen, bathrooms, and windows/glass for years!

  2. My favorite two books on this subject are Home Safe Home and Why David Hated Tuesdays: One Courageous Mother’s Guide to Keeping Your Family Toxin and Allergy Free. They both helped me so much! I find that products are always sneaking back into my home and I have to hunt them down and re-evaluate what we are using at least once a year.

  3. Thank you so much for this post and list! I am blessed to have a freind from church who makes all natural products. I had everything except natural shampoo.

  4. Do be careful though when using even organic products on body for allergies to certain ingredients.I too, only use organic non synthetic products for me any my family. However, I would never use calendula products on my son, he is allergic to ragweed, calendula is part of the ragweed family.I am a total supporter for everything that goes in and on our bodies being organic and nontoxic. Just remember that our bodies can have bad reactions to even organic things. Be very aware of your body and your families bodies to take the best care possible. Also, for those that use essential oils to make body products, like lavender can have a negative effect on male hormones if overly used.

  5. A leading cause of childhood cancer is 1,1,1, trichloroethane, trichloroethylene and perchloroethylene, as well as atrazines in water. This chemicals come from dry-cleaning, wood finishing, and automotive repair industries. The atrazines come from farming. They are as prevalent in well water as city water, and it doesn’t matter where you live, because water moves globally. It also doesn’t matter what you drink, because these chemicals are aliphatic and are easily absorbed through the skin when bathing. Whole house RO systems with additional carbon filtration can remove them, but are costly. As for drinking RO water – unless you live in a 3rd world country and have no access to any other means of purification – don’t drink RO water. It results in osteoporosis in women and to a lesser extent – men. It also causes deficiencies in growth and development. Groundwater naturally picks up minerals and colloidal minerals (those in liquid solution) are what our bodies can absorb. Pills and supplements cannot replace God’s design. RO water = ‘Dead water.’ Good for bathing, bad for cooking and drinking.

  6. I honestly believe childhood obesity as well as adult obesity impacts sperm production and count. Men should strive to be physically fit, athletic, and active. Not only do you look much more appealing to your wife, but you can avoid other health issues that can impact your fertility and life later in the future.

  7. I don’t agree with you on most things but I really appreciate this list of products. I love using natural products and LOVE rocky mountain soap and switched to all natural about a year ago. Highly recommend. And they have toxin free days every 6 months where you get a free product.

  8. I would:

    Avoid vaccines.
Avoid all GMO foods, including wheat (not officially GMO but heavily modified).

GMO corn found to cause infertility in rats:

GMO soy found to cause infertility in rats:

    “gluten” (modern wheat) and infertility:
    https://www.naturalfertilityandwellness.com/gluten-and-infertility/

If you want something wheat-like, go with organic einkorn (ancient wheat) or organic spelt.

Avoid chemical shampoos and soaps. Use a natural soap like Dr. Bronner’s (you can also use it on your hair). Use a natural conditioner. Olive oil works well.

You can also use vegetable-oil-based soaps as laundry detergent, dish soap and as a household cleaner (such as Murphy’s Oil Soap, basically the same as Dr. Bronner’s).

  9. I believe that sunscreen causes cancer. I have a good friend who uses sunscreen faithfully every day and has never laid out in the sun. She’s had a TON of skin cancer. Slathering toxic chemicals over your body is not a good idea. There are some non-toxic ones, however. I don’t use it. I wear a hat when I’m outside.

  10. It is no surprise that these health issues follow the same long term trend of women delaying having babies to get educated and have careers. The peak reproductive years are 18 – 24. The average age for an American woman to bear her first child is now over 26. And since that’s the average a large percentage are waiting much later. Any woman who really cares about bringing healthy babies into the world should be focused on marriage and family by age 18, not picking out a college.

  11. I think the exposure to plastics and to hormones in milk and meat have much more to do with these health issues as well as fertility in women. My Paternal great- grandmother had her last child at age 43 in 1909. My Maternal great-grandmothers had their last children at age 42 and 41. My Maternal grandmother had her 11th child at age 44, and her 10th child at age 41. My Mother had me at age 40, almost 41. My sisters had their children in to their 40’s. I had my first child at age 42 and two more after that. All of these children were conceived naturally and without ‘trying.’ All children were healthy and of above average intelligence. This is just my family and we are not exceptional. However, artificial hormones and mimickers, like plastics, are causing girls to start their periods at a significantly earlier age, and thus, creating fertility issues later in life.

  12. Could you share some of these non-toxic options? Our family is moving to Taiwan next year, which is right under the Tropic of Cancer—my daughters and I all tend to sunburn and a hat just won’t be enough, I’m afraid…

  13. Im almost 40 and in my life ive seen men personally change. There is a whole new class of men who just look and act low testosterone. They act just like women it is bizzare. They will take photos and smile like girls, talk like girls. Its creepy. They are like another gender.

  14. Do be careful not to put an organic and holistic lifestyle above God. I see many Christians put more faith and give more glory in and to their clean food/ holistic lifestyle than God.

  15. Most everyone has some idols in their lives, so many who don’t eat organically and holistically can still make an idol out of eating. Eating food the way God intended for us to eat, then leaving the results up to Him is how I live now. I may have made an idol of it when I was younger but thankfully, I don’t any longer.

  16. Personally, I think we have the chicken and egg reversed here. Many people are seeing a drop in testosterone (a massive drop!) and thinking that’s what is causing men to act like women. However, I believe it’s purely Romans 1.

Men are acting like women first, then their testosterone is lowering. Then they’re acting more like women, and their testosterone is lowering further. I’m not talking over a matter of months, though I do believe this can happen as well. I’m talking a matter of generations. A good starting point is the feminist movement.

I work at a university and I’m seeing more and more and more young men act more and more like young women.

It’s not a phase, it’s not the plastic bottles, it’s sin.

  17. Distillation removes all the minerals and particulates and microbes, but does not most of the organic vapors (such as tri and perchloethanes and ethylenes. So, distilled water has no minerals in it either, and therefore will demineralize your bones.
Whole countries, such as Japan and Saudi Arabia, that rely on desalination (reverse osmosis, or distilled water) experience osteoporosis in young women, excessive fractures in children and dental problems. That is why they, Japan particularly, are buying many of the wells in the USA.
