This World is Like a Putrefying Carcass

John MacArthur went against the ungodly mandate that churches weren’t allowed to meet in California yet riots, protests, liquor stores, and abortion clinics were allowed. He spoke about this last Sunday. I listened to his sermon. It was excellent. I will share some of the points that stood out to me.

He began his sermon by explaining unbelievers: dead in trespasses and sin, live in futility of mind, love darkness and hate the light, hostile to God, preaching of cross is foolishness, cut off from the life of God. We can’t expect them to grasp truth.

We’re the only hope in this world. Take out the salt and you’ll have the Tribulation. The Church is the only preservative in society. The world is like a putrefying carcass. We must influence the world and not be influenced by it.

The influence of a righteous, God fearing life holds back the corruption to some degree. We need to be lights set on a hill. Salt works quietly but powerfully. It starts in the home where you raise godly children but salt can’t change good into evil. Only light can do that. Light displays the truth.

The real danger in our culture isn’t a virus. It’s spiritual. In California alone, there are 364 abortions a day. One in four pregnancies end in abortion. Eighty eight percent of these are from unmarried women. California has more abortions than any other state and our governor welcomes all women from other states to come have abortions here. Almost a million babies are aborted a year in America. We have a culture of death.

Be salt and light, women. Live out godly lives in front of all that you come into contact with. Let them see the love and kindness of the Savior living in and through you. Make sure you speak the truth in love, too. People need to hear truth. All they hear are lies since most are following the father of lies, Satan, but we follow the Father of Truth, Jesus Christ. People need to hear Truth.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 5:16

  1. Pregnant women often ask God for a sign if she should keep the baby. So I put up a beautiful yard sign with a fetus saying, “Me.” and the born baby saying, “Still me. Choose life!”

I highly recommend promotional materials of all kinds from Heritage House (hh76.org) They also make beautiful, Christian Christmas ornaments that I like to give as gifts. They have many, many items, like writing pens and pins you wear with baby feet, etc.

  2. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16. I like to start by telling people that I live in the UK, because there seems to be slight differences regarding Covid19 rules around the world. I think some people are getting confused with what is ‘law’ and what is ‘advice’. Our local Church of England put this in an email. (a summary from a long document from the CofE “We strongly advise that face coverings should be worn by all those attending a place of worship, including ministers, worshippers, staff,…….”) the vicar then wrote:- “However, as has already been pointed out by senior clergy in various dioceses, this is advice, not law.” Note that it’s ‘advice’ not ‘law’. My thoughts are; for any Christians feeling confused and or afraid, try and find out which statements are law and which are just advice.

  3. Very good advice to remember. Sometimes people are to quick to have a knee jerk reaction to things and don’t fully comprehend what’s being ask. Mandates differ greatly depending on what part of the country you live in. In Tennessee the state governor has left mask mandates up to local mayors to decide. Most have decided not to have mandate. Those counties that do have mandates, it’s for indoor public buildings only excluding churches. (I have no problem wearing a mask in a public area, it’s not any different than being asked to wear shirt and shoes.)However many churches in my area are asking that makes be worn. Some churches have chosen to go back to online services but we’re not forced. They chose this on their own as precaution. All the Methodist Churches in one county in Tennessee has closed doors to all services until further notice because of huge surge in covid in that area. They were never forced by the government though, they did it on their own. Bars in the same county are being forced to close by local government for two weeks effective August third. But no church has been forced to close or to online only.

  4. I have been following Lori’s blog for years now and really appreciate Lori’s ministry. So I bring this to attention with a sincere heart. Churches need to be open, I am in no way refuting this at all. But if the government is requiring masks in public gatherings and wearing a mask this does not violate a command of God, then as Christians we need not only to respect our government but also love our neighbor. Even if we are not worried about ourselves, if there is a chance our wearing a mask could save our fellow brother or sister in Christ from suffering we need to do that. Of course, if wearing a mask for a couple hours at church is putting the wearer in medical danger that is an exception but the government is not requiring those people to (or little children). It makes Christians look hypocritical to the world when the Bible tells us to love our neighbor and obey government so long as it does not dishonor God and then large numbers of Christians are refusing to wear masks to church. To those who say, well then those who are immune compromised or elderly shouldn’t attend church, to you I say, how is that attitude loving your neighbor as Jesus commands us to do? Why should they have to stay home and not fellowship and worship their God with the church because you don’t want to wear a mask? I’m not commenting this to condemn anyone but I’ve seen many commenters on this blog bring this topic up and it really disturbs my heart. Please consider the well being and health of your neighbor above yourself and listen to the advice and law of your government so long as it does not dishonor our God. In 1527, Martin Luther wrote this in the midst of a plague, “I shall ask God mercifully to protect us. Then I shall fumigate, help purify the air, administer medicine and take it. I shall avoid places and persons where my presence is not needed in order not to become contaminated and thus perchance inflict and pollute others and so cause their death as a result of my negligence. If God should wish to take me, he will surely find me and I have done what he has expected of me and so I am not responsible for either my own death or the death of others. If my neighbor needs me however I shall not avoid place or person but will go freely as stated above. See this is such a God-fearing faith because it is neither brash nor foolhardy and does not tempt God.” I think this is a good attitude to have in the midst of our current pandemic. Let’s go and worship our God but wear a mask if your medically able to so you can love and protect your fellow neighbor.
Grace and peace and God bless

  5. Things move quickly! Since our vicar sent the email, this has happened.
Boris Johnson has announced that face coverings must be worn in places of worship from 8th August and that wedding receptions will not be allowed for another two weeks.
Wedding receptions for up to 30 people were going to be allowed from tomorrow (1st August) but the Prime Minister has announced these will now not be allowed until Saturday 15th August.
Wedding services will still be allowed to go ahead.

  6. So many parts of our society “no longer work together” and “don’t help”.

Over and over again, one runs across these things that “Just don’t work any more”.

For example, Feminism has been pushing more women to get college degrees, but since there are limited colleges and scholarships, automatic result is, LESS men get degrees. Look it up! The ratio of female to male is almost 60/40. That is a disaster, because those under-educated boys end up getting radicalized, can’t find wives, and turn to drugs or violence. Violent men can and will tear a society to shreds!

Also, women have a tendency to quit their professional careers early, because they decide to start having kids. So society is investing limited resources in educating women…who will be part-timers .. while NOT educating men who will be full-timers. It’s obviousl that this is a less efficient system.

The old-fashioned Godly ways of living work better…not because of some mystical magic, but simply because … they just work better! Societies that listen to Satan and his envious whispers always end up falling apart of disintegrating.

Follow God is you want to be successful. Follow Satan if you want to fail.

  7. Dear Happy Homemaker, Nicely written. I’m in the UK. I have several masks. I wear them when I have to. We have to check what’s happening every day. The members of the congregation have to be 2 metres apart unless in the same household. From 8 August everyone has to wear a mask unless they have a medical reason. Only one person is allowed to sing, observing the following rules. Indoors – where essential to an act of worship, one individual only should be permitted to sing or chant, and the use of plexi-glass screens should be considered to protect worshippers from them, as this will further prevent transmission and the screen can be easily cleaned. Where music plays a big part in worship, and recordings are available, we suggest you consider using these as an alternative to live singing.
You are advised only to play musical instruments that are not blown into. Organs can be played for faith practices, as well as general maintenance, but should be cleaned thoroughly before and after use. We are happy to watch on line at home or keep the rules but things are moving and changing so quickly, choices are not really available. You obey the government or get fined. God bless you.
