My Review of “Keep Your Kids” by Doug Wilson

My Review of “Keep Your Kids” by Doug Wilson

Someone from Canon Press, Doug Wilson’s organization, asked me to review Doug’s new book, Keep Your Kids. I was sent an Advanced Reader’s Copy and read it right away. Here is my review of this book!

When you want to learn how to raise godly children, find someone who has raised godly children. Doug Wilson has raised godly children and is worthy of learning from. In reading his new book “Keep Your Kids,” some things were deeply impressed upon and new to me. Praise the Lord, my husband and I raised godly children who walk in truth. It is a blessing from the Lord, but we were diligent because we knew nothing was more important than their eternal souls. Doug understands this clearly. Of course, it’s all God’s grace, but God does give us specific commands on how we are to raise our children.

Raising children in this culture is far different than it was when we were raising our children. Did you know the word “empathy” is the satanic counterfeit of “sympathy” and means we must believe everyone when they speak about “my truth and my reality” rather than God’s truth and reality? This is what your children are coming against! The entire trans movement is built upon this thinking. And as Doug wrote, “The world wants everybody to stay stuck in their trauma, stuck in their pain, and stuck in their victimhood.” There’s no freedom in Christ that is offered.

Doug teaches us how to navigate our children through these wicked days. God’s Word must permeate our lives and then, we must teach them and model to our children a life lived out for Jesus Christ and the victory He provides for us. Doug gives many practical illustrations and tools to encourage you in this most important endeavor. “Our children must grow up in an environment dominated by the Word of God, but more than that, they must grow up in an environment dominated by the lived-out Word of God.”

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6

  1. You wrote, “When you want to learn how to raise godly children, find someone who has raised godly children.” THIS is so important. Many young mothers follow other young mothers in child raising philosophies. I think this is surely one of the main reasons we’ve lost so many young people in the church. Finding older Christians who did it right with a good outcome is pretty rare these days. I’m glad Doug Wilson wrote a book about it.

  2. This sounds like a great book. Thanks for the recommendation.
Earlier this year I read a book called “Bad Therapy – Why the Kids Aren’t Growing Up” by Abigail Shrier. It’s not written from a Christian perspective, but does shed a lot of light on the huge problem of our current cultural response to trauma. It left me wanting to pull up my bootstraps and fight the good fight, not get stuck in my problems.
