Training Your Daughters in Biblical Womanhood
“That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.” (Titus 2:4,5)
God commands aged women to teach these things to young women. The aged women wouldn’t need to do this if the mothers of the daughters were training them in biblical womanhood as they were growing up which they should be doing. How should mothers do this?
Teach them that God commands that they be sober. Most women can’t drink much alcohol at all and still remain sober. This is why I gave up drinking many years ago, plus I didn’t sleep well after drinking alcohol. It messes up one’s sleep cycle. Teach them also to be sober minded. This means that they are not led by their emotions and feelings but by the truths found in God’s Word instead. Therefore, you must read the Bible to them often and have them memorize Scripture so they grow up with a sound mind, learning to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. Work often with their thinking since this is where their actions will flow from.
How do you teach them to love and obey their husbands? By modeling this to them in the way you love and obey your husband. Your example will be a huge influence in their life for good. It’s far easier for women to love and obey their husbands if they saw their own mothers doing this with their fathers. If their mothers are argumentative and quarrelsome with their fathers, they will be argumentative and quarrelsome with their own husband. Help make your daughters’ future marriages far easier!
Teach your daughters to be discreet in this promiscuous, wicked age in which we live. Let them know that God commands them to dress modestly, discreetly, and be shamefaced. Show them what this looks like. Set standards according to your own biblical convictions with your husband’s help. Help them acquire a meek and quiet spirit that is not led by their emotions and feelings but by God’s Word instead. This means learning to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ and hiding God’s Word in their hearts.
“In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But which becometh women professing godliness with good works” (1 Timothy 2:9,10). Our culture will do everything to get your daughters to focus solely upon their looks and what they wear. God wants them focused on their inner beauty instead. This lasts far longer than outer beauty and makes for being good wives, mothers, and homemakers.
Help them to be sexually pure (chaste) until marriage. It will be a blessing to them. Set standards that will help them accomplish these goals. We didn’t let our children date until after high school. We knew it wasn’t safe to allow members of the opposite sex be alone together for long periods of time. They need to learn the beauty of marital sex and the harm of fornication. Make sure they know this! The will learn the opposite from culture.
Train them in all of the ways of running a home. Teach them how to cook and clean. Do it all with thanksgiving in your heart so your daughters will see it all as a blessing rather than a curse. Explain to them that God created them for the home and not the workforce. Show them the studies that even prove this. All of God’s ways are for their good and for their protection.
Teach them how to be good by studying, memorizing, and knowing God’s Word. It’s His Spirit that works mightily within them and helps them to walk in obedience to Him. You must teach them to obey you from an early age. This will teach them self-control and make it far easier for them to obey God when they grow up. It’s a blessing you give to your daughters.
Have them go through my Biblical Womanhood: A Study Guide. It teaches all of these biblical qualities God wants in women. They will dig into their Bibles and see for themselves God’s will for them. Raise them up in the nurture and the admonition of the Lord so when they grow up, they won’t depart from them but walk in Truth instead.
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
