Husbands Decide on the Family Bed
The family bed is a hot issue among some women these days. Joseph Spurgeon, a pastor, wrote the following on his Facebook page. I wholeheartedly agree with him. Family bed is great IF your husband fully agrees and wants it, but it is NOT great if he does not want the children sleeping in his bed. Wives are commanded to obey their husbands in everything, except when a husband asks his wife to sin against God. A husband asking his wife to not have children sleeping in their bed is NOT a sin against God, since there is not one verse that commands children to sleep with their parents. Obey your husband in this issue, women.
Hebrews 13:4 Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled….
It is called a marriage bed, not a mommy and child bed. Wean your children from the bed and get them into their own bed and out of the bed reserved for husband and wife.
Fathers, be jealous to protect the marriage bed from any who dare interpose and that includes your children. You want to allow an opening for bitterness and sexual lust to build up, then allow your wife to keep a child in the bed for months and months. (Extended) Co-sleeping will cause exhaustion, ruin sexual intimacy, and lead to temptations of bitterness and sexual lust. Men, you are the authority in your house and you will have to fight and lead your wife on this to protect your marriage bed for your wife, your children, and your marriage’s sake.
Now, obviously the father needs to have compassion and self-awareness. This instruction isn’t talking about newborns, and there are times for exceptions to the rule but in my experience as a pastor, I have seen it to be the case that many times co-sleeping has been an issue that needed to be dealt with for the sake of the family.
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
