Why Do Women Love Home?
Whenever I write anything about the home, women seem to love it. Cooking and remodeling shows are some of the most popular TV shows for women. Why is this? It is because God gave women a heart for home. We all love the thought of a peaceful, beautiful home that is clean and tidy with delicious aromas of food cooking. We can decorate our homes differently according to our tastes. We fix the food our family loves. We can travel the world but when we finally climb into our own bed the first night after getting back home, we most likely will think, “There is no place like home!” If you are blessed with a husband who wants you to be home full time, you get to live full time in your home. If you want to leave the home for any reason (shopping, friends, church, doctor, etc.), it’s mostly because you chose to leave your home, not that you have to, unless it’s an emergency.
Home is a place where you can forget about the evil going on in the world. You can shut down your television, the news, and be thankful for a peaceful home. There’s a roof over your head, good food, and a comfortable bed. When you’re sick, home is the only place you want to be. Your family lives in your home; the most important people in your life. Focus upon being wise women who build your homes up, instead of tearing them down with your own hands.
You make love to your husband in your home. Your children grow up in your home, then bring their fiances then spouses and children to your home. On holidays, they come back home to visit and gather for fun and feasts. So much good goes on in a wise woman’s home. She doesn’t argue, complain, or yell, so there is peace in her home.
“My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places” (Isaiah 32:18) God told the Israelites, “Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them; Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished” (Jeremiah 29:6).
God was the Creator of homes and families. He wants us to dwell in them and have children. These have never changed. In heaven, we will all have mansions to live in that are in God’s house! “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2) Imagine how gorgeous those will be! So even for eternity we will live in homes. Everything good in life is from the Lord. “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” (James 1:17). Thank the Lord for your home.
Besides all of this, we have Jesus and the gift of salvation. We should be the most joyful and thankful people on this earth!
By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established;
by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
Proverbs 24:3, 4

Beautifully said! I have always loved home….I just have to be careful not to make it an idol of my heart. 🙂
Ever since we bought this house, I have enjoyed being home. It is my place of comfort where I can find a spot to be alone with the Lord. I enjoy cleaning it and cooking meals for my family. I can’t imagine what would happen if I worked outside my home.
Yes, Kay, this is easy to do with the things of this world but continue to remind yourself that it will all burn one day and then you will get your mansion in the Lord’s house that will never burn!
When I worked outside of the home, Regina, I was too tired to enjoy my home; that’s what happens. There are many homes today that sit empty all day long while both parents are working hard for their empty home and strangers are raising their children either in daycare or public schooling. It’s tragic for the children.
Love that post! It reminds me that my home is a blessing for my family and I ! And here in Quebec, winter and December are nice opportunities to make homes even more pretty and cozy?! And I can’t wait for my eternal home!! Knowing that one day, all those things I am hoping for will be the reality… can’t wait!! Have a great week end Lori!
I love my home too. The light that comes in is just perfect! But find when I am there a majority of my time, I start to feel stifled and uninspired. I try to go for walks or do something other than cook and clean to rejuvenate my spirit as there is so much wonder in the world!
Thank you, Daniele. I can’t even imagine a winter up in Canada! I have never lived in the snow but it sure is beautiful and it must make a home very cozy to be in. We turn our heaters on a couple of weeks a year and that’s it. 🙂
We take walks every day, Sammi. Yes, it’s good to get out once in a while but then it’s good to come back home!
I hated working outside our little home, I know this is probably silly but I used to cry all the way to work on most days, especially when I had to leave my precious family on Christmas Day. However, I must say, I think God brought good out of it; it taught me to value being at home when I left work. I praise God that my Precious Antony can’t cook to save his life. I still remember getting into bed at 4 am one morning and Antony saying I really would love you to leave your job or 3 of us are going to cease to exist. I was so happy that I was coming home. I have never stopped loving being home. It is sometimes a financial battle but that is not a problem I have enjoyed seeing how many ways I can live frugal, I have learned to make it fun. I really believe that when you live on less money it makes you enjoy the little things in life and then at the close of the day you learn that those little things – are really the big things.
Love & Hugs.???
Hi Laurie,
I’ve missed your blog. It used to come up on my blogfeed and the new website came up today. Thank you that you are still blogging. Its funny that you say you’ve only been blogging since 2011. It seams longer, I love your wisdom.
I love home too. Unfortunately I work all day outside my home as I am single without children. Please continue to encourage young women to marry well and grow together with their spouses and care for their children at home. It’s the most precious occupation.
Thank you and I’m sorry, Laurie, but I began this blog at the beginning of October. I started it to coincide with my book.
Keep praying, for the Lord hears your prayers and the desires of your heart.
I am embracing the God given role of homemaker. I am starting to really enjoy it.
