Being Forgiven Gives Her the Freedom to Be Promiscuous?
Written By My Husband, Ken, and Me
Does Christ’s crucifixion on the cross give us the freedom to sin? Since we have been completely forgiven, can we now live however we want? The Bachelorette sure seems to think so! (Please don’t watch this show as it is a bunch of immodest, intoxicated people making out with each other. It’s not what Christians should be entertained by nor supporting.)
From the Daily Wire, “Though ‘The Bachelorette’ star Hannah Brown has been open about her Christian faith this past season, she also openly boasted about premarital sex as if it were no big deal.” She has a “personal relationship with Jesus” without doctrinal accountability. “I can do whatever — I sin daily and Jesus still loves me. It’s all washed and if the Lord doesn’t judge me and it’s all forgiven, then no other man, woman … can judge me.”
Is this how Christianity works? Did Jesus die on the cross so we can be free to sin or freed from sin? What does God say about us? Does he call us sinners or saints, “holy ones” and “the righteousness of God”? We challenge anyone to find in God’s Word that He is pleased with sin, with pre-marital sex, or the idea that it’s okay to sin because we are already washed by the blood of the Lamb.
God is never okay with sin, and although His love may not change towards us based on what we do or do not do, God does judge us and has promised that His wayward children will receive His discipline in their lives for continual, unabated sin. Why? Because He loves us and wants the very best for us. God has saved us from sin to walk in newness of life.
Unfortunately, the heresy of antinomianism is rampant in the church today which believes that the moral law is of no use or obligation. Many are confused as they are taught that in our new lives in Christ, we are forgiven for all our sins: past, present and future. This is indeed a great and mighty doctrinal mystery that God has given us. He frees us from sin so that sin can never again define who we are but this does not give us the freedom to sin. We are the chosen ones in Christ; adopted children who have been born again to a new life and our identity and being is permanently placed into Christ at the cross the moment we believe.
“What shall we say then, shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid! How shall we who are dead to sin continue in any longer therein? Know ye not that so many of us that were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore, we are buried with him by baptism into death, that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we should walk in newness of life… For he that is dead is freed from sin” (Romans 6:1-4, 7).
Do you understand this? The response of the child of God who is freed from sin is to walk in newness of life! This does not mean that sin never touches us again, nor that we will never have any struggles with sin or addictions, but it means, as all the apostles also teach, that sin no longer is to characterize our lives.
Or as John says, “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God” (1 John 3:9)
Many today want to see God as a lovey, dovey Father who accepts us no matter how we live our lives as long as we say we have a “personal relationship” with Him. The same God of the Old Covenant that said to kill the adulterer is now so loving that he suffers silently hoping his wayward children will stop having sex with multiple partners before marriage. Nothing could be further from the truth!
No, this is not the Christianity of the Bible! We are told that if we love Him, we will keep His commands. We encourage you to memorize Romans 6. If you say you’re a sinner who sins all the time, you will be a sinner who sins all of the time. After all, you are what you believe, and will become what you believe. If you believe in Christ and you know you are a saint, “dead to sin” and “freed from sin” (Romans 6:7) and you know that His Spirit works mightily within you, you will NOT continue in sin.
Peter says it so well when he writes, “Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, … That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries… but live according to God in the spirit” (1 Peter 4:1-6).
Please do not justify your sin but instead be repentant when you are living in sin. Don’t act like it is no big deal to sin but hate your sin knowing that it is a sin you put Christ on the cross for. Do all you can to get sin out of your life. Mourn over it and repent, knowing that God is not pleased with His children’s sinful actions.
Sin is destructive and deadly. If it no longer condemns you to hell because you are in Christ, it will most certainly give you hell on earth if you continue to willfully and blatantly sin, and worse yet expose your sin for all the world to see. Hide your light under a bushel if your light is not the light of the Lord Jesus Christ.
We are big believers in the grace of God, and those who participate in the debauchery of this show and those who walk in fleshly sexual sins can indeed find complete forgiveness in Christ Jesus. But once you have found it, don’t return to wallow in the mud and mire of sin, but stop being a part of this hedonism.
God’s grace is what gives us the power to walk in the Spirit and say “no” to sin. Will you test Him at His Word and walk in newness of life, or will you keep participating in the passions of the flesh and reaping the consequences of these sins in the flesh? God’s forgiveness does not resolve the fact that your mind and body are being polluted and diseased, and worst of all, your testimony of the power of God in your life is being extinguished.
God is calling us as Christians to walk as Christ walked, to live in the light, and to put aside fleshly passions. Let us find the heart of God who hates sin; yes, hates it. Let us learn to hate our sin and not cheaply justify it by a forgiveness earned by the suffering blood of Christ. A forgiveness reserved for those who truly love God and have His desire to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh. “But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you” (Romans 8:9).
For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
1 Peter 4:17

Someone who can continue in blatant sin, such as fornication, without remorse or any desire to stop sinning, is not saved, and this is evidence that they are not saved. Salvation requires submission to the Lordship of Christ as part of our faith in Him. Jesus didn’t come to be a free ticket to live in sin and still go to heaven. Salvation has conditions and it produces fruit in the lives of believers. Those who are saved will not continue in blatant sin. Thus, those who do continue in sin, and especially if they do it without remorse and think they don’t need to change, are not saved. They could not have saving faith if they continue to spit upon the Son of God by willfully sinning.
Romans 6:1-2 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?
Hebrews 10:26-29 For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries. Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?
That’s completely absurd! Being forgiven doesn’t give you license to never think of consequences again. It’s like that stupid argument that abortion should be allowed simply because people will do it anyways… It’s as absurd as saying people will steal anyways so why bother punishing them!
Lindsay, Hebrews 10:29 was the exact verse that came into my mind when I read this post. It is a scripture that my husband uses very often when he teaches in the churches in Puerto Rico, where it seems Christianity is more of a cultural tradition, and pastoring is treated like a “family business” that has very little to do with a humble, living and active relationship with Jesus Christ. When my husband teaches this verse, he reminds congregants that it was written not to Gentiles or pagans, but to those who profess to believe in Jesus Christ…reminding them also that if they are sitting in church, they must consider themselves to be somewhere on a Christian spectrum. But he also reminds them of Matthew 15:8-9:
‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth,
And honor Me with their lips,
But their heart is far from Me.
And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’
Ken & Lori, great post. The biggest heresy in the current church is complementarianism, which accepts the lie of the world that men and women (the bridegroom and the bride) are equal. This inverts/subverts God’s natural order in Ephesians 5:23 “For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior” and 1 Corinthians 11:3 “But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.” No longer is the woman to be the helper of the man and the church to be the helper of Christ. This reduces God to only existing for the purpose of hearing about a woman’s day and telling her she’s pretty. Obedience is not required if they are co-equal.
Our Saviour gives hope to the repentant sinner who puts her faith in him and his mercy. That is in no way an excuse for her to continue sin or show a lack of true repentance.
Fornication is a disgusting, disgraceful and truly evil sin. With absolutely no justification.
I love this post!
Yes God forgives our sins. But first we have to repent which involves two steps: turning from, and turning to. We turn from our sin. We are sorry for it. We turn to God, and do our best not to sin again.
Anybody who willingly sins, knowing it is a sin, and makes no effort to repent, is not a Christian, no matter what they say.
I met my wife at church. After we became engaged, she confessed she wasn’t a virgin and had been sexually active with her ex-fiancee. I was a bit troubled, having faithfully adhered to chastity myself, but my pastors and other church leaders who worked with us said she was truly repentant and such.
I often wish I had not married her, even more than two decades later and no matter my love for her. I cannot adequately describe the damage her pre-marriage promiscuity has caused our marriage. We had fertility issues from her STD. She struggles at times to have any intimacy because of the guilt she feels, so she refuses any intimacy at all for long periods of time.
And so on. I will advise my sons and every other young man I ever meet that repentant is not enough. The scars remain and there will be pain from it.
God has a huge heart and is full of love. He will forgive us when we truly repent, but that does not mean that all the consequences vanish.
Wow.
She said that?
You know how I am…I’m all about reality. The reality is people have sex before marriage….
To keep the man
And this is a result largely of Family Pressure not to Marry Quickly
Family pressure not to marry quickly is a result of…Previously Failed Marriages
And Failed Marriages are largely a result of…Financial Pressure on Men / Materialism + Feminist Brainwashing on Women
And Financial Pressure/Feminism is largely a result of….Lack of Good Jobs for Men / Peer Pressure on Women
And Lack of Jobs/ Feminism is a result of…Government Policy
Anyways…….
BUT…if you do find a Woman who Proudly says she sleeps around because She Can…
This girl has revealed herself to be a cheating risk and smart men would do well to look past the pretty face and avoid her.
There is a genetic component to Cheating and remember the man who was living a double life and cheating on his wife and 3 kids…you can’t tell me not one of his daughters isn’t going to follow in Daddy’s Genetic Footprint
So basically these people with the genetic component towards cheating are revealing themselves with these ridiculous statements.
Ok then. Lets go with that thought for a moment. So that means I can murder someone and that’s ok, because God still loves me and has forgiven me? Wouldn’t work with a judge and certainly doesn’t gel with God. Foolish woman. Good post, once again.
This reminds me of many conversations I had starting in my college days to today 30years later. The key concept that was discussed over and over again (and is a major issue in many evangelical churches today) is the concept of what it means to be “free from the law”. One end of this teaching, which this young lady on the tv show believes, one can do what ever they want because they are free from the law and God will forgive me because I believe in Christ’s work on the cross.
But yet we read in the Bible – James specifically – faith without the works proving that you have faith and love for God is nothing. In fact Christ said He came to fulfill the Law and the Prophets. He reminded people what the basis of the Law was – Love God with all your heart, mind, soul, and body; and Love your neighbor as yourself. He also continued obeying the commandments and told others to continue obeying the commandments of God. He even told a few that He healed and forgave them of their sins, to go and sin no more.
We have this false teaching in the churches today all because we do not want to be called fundamentalists or modern-day pharisees. We have elders in churches who do not want to be bad guys, they want to be loved by all who come to the church, and be the super servant to all. They do not lead. This is starts in the home where the husband is being beaten down by said leaders to be a SERVANT leader like Christ was our SERVANT leader. (emphasis is on servant and the leader is diminished or not there at all). Men are told more and more to serve their wives. This then leads these men to when they do become the leader in the church they have no real idea of how to lead other than to serve. This then leaves us with leaders not willing to call out sin and demand that those of us who are saved, to show to the outside world that we are Christians by the way we act, dress, speak, and most of all love one another.
Love does not giving to the other person everything they want, but raising them up to the next level closer to God and to exhort each other into living Godly lives. We are not to lower ourselves and continue wallowing in the muck, we are to be examples to others to show them how to come out of the muck.
I think it is incredibly important for women to know and understand how damaging pre-marital sex is to Christian marriage.
Sins – truly repented off can be forgiven by purity is a precious gift.
