Living a Life of Thankfulness
“By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name” (Hebrews 13:15).
On my Facebook page, a man wrote this comment: “Thankfulness is the enemy of comparison and discontent. Give thanks in all circumstances! If you make it a habit to give thanks, you will one day find you are that content person that you admired despite the circumstances. One of the sweetest, most godly mothers I know lives in a small trailer with her awesome husband and six kids. A thankful, happy family.”
Our culture has made us believe that having stuff, lots of stuff, bigger stuff, fancier and more expensive stuff will make us happy. NOTHING on this earth will make anyone happy and content for long. It gets old quickly. It decays, breaks, and can be stolen. You won’t be happier if you have a bigger home, women, or if you have another car, more clothes, another husband, or anything else that your heart is desiring. The key to happiness is being thankful with what you have and learn contentment.
A few Christmas’ ago, I had the verse I quoted above carved on wood plaques for each of my children’s families. I wanted them to remember to be continually praising the Lord and giving thanks to Him. This is the life that God asks us to live because He knows that this is the best way for us to live. It’s so easy for us to grumble and complain about all sorts of things but this will most certainly steal our peace and your joy. It’s in giving our lives away that we will find true contentment and joy.
May your Thanksgiving be blessed with love, goodness, and thankfulness!
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
James 1:17

This is a great reminder to focus on what really matters. There are many distractions in life. If we focus on what we don’t have, we will be miserable. But God has blessed me tremendously, starting with salvation, then with a Godly wife, and children.
Thanksgiving truly is the root of joy. I daily remind my littles that whiny attitudes and sour faces are symptoms of an ungrateful, sick heart, and if they want to have a happy heart, they need to continually offer up thanks to God. Thank you for the reminder for myself, too. 🙂
Have a blessed Thanksgiving surrounded by your family and loved ones!
Happy Thanksgiving!
My heart is full. We are a young family learning to manage but I have come to realize we are richer than most people simply based off the love and respect we have for each other. My husband is a hard working Godly man and I strive to serve him and uplift him in anyway possible. Our children are still very young and funds are tight, but I can’t explain the spirit of contentment over us. We laugh and smile and for me that is more precious than gold.
