Great Questions For a Dad to Ask a Guy Who Wants to Marry His Daughter
Written By Pastor Gabriel Hughes
There are times where, as a pastor, I’ve been asked to interview a young man on behalf of a young woman in my congregation. These are among the questions I ask. They are the same questions I’ll ask any young man who wants to date, court, or marry one of my daughters:
1. What is the gospel? Defend the deity of Christ.
2. How often do you study your Bible? Pray? Attend church?
3. What church do you attend? Can I have your pastor’s phone number?
4. What kind of relationship do you have with your parents? Siblings?
5. What do you for a living? Define your career plans / goals / aspirations.
6. What kinds of shows or movies do you watch? What music do you listen to? What are you reading? Any favorite podcasts? What social media do you use?
7. Have you ever been committed of a crime?
8. Do you watch pornography? When was the last time you watched it?
9. Are you abstinent? How important is it to you to save sex until marriage? What kinds of boundaries have you put in place to ensure you will honor Christ and protect your purity and hers?
(If he hasn’t been abstinent:) How many women have there been? Do you have any children? Have you ever recommended or paid for an abortion?
10. Do you want to get married? Do you want to be a father? Do you believe you’re ready to be a husband and a father?
Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
1 Timothy 4:12

Sadly for most men, it’s not so much a question of IF they’ve watched porn but how long it’s been since the last time. I remember my younger sister was interested a young man and he was going to have a talk either my parents and I told my mom she should ask him about his porn habits. She was surprised but grateful I had brought it up.
Great list, BTW. My kids are still very young but it’s already been impressed upon my husband and i how we need to be proactive in getting our children around other Bible believing people and hopefully will find a God fearing spouse. 🥰
Thank you, Mrs. Alexander. Could you please make a post on what a guy should find in a wife (let’s say you’re writing to your son). Thank you!
Hi Mary!
When men ask me how to find a godly wife, I encourage them to ask any girl they may be interested in marrying to read my first book “The Power of a Transformed Wife.” If they love it and agree with it (thus, agreeing with biblical womanhood), then marry them. If they don’t, then run! They need to make sure they don’t marry a feminist.
Next show the list of things a future daughter in law should be asked.
