Main Reasons Women Divorce

Main Reasons Women Divorce

“Around 69% of divorces in heterosexual marriages are initiated by women.” The vast majority of these women are college educated.

“Women often feel less satisfied in marriages due to unmet emotional needs, poor communication, and lack of independence.”

My grandmother and mother never even thought about emotional needs. It wasn’t a term until the 1980s when a psychologist came up with it. Read HERE why he did. It’s only cause devastation upon marriage. Both my grandma and mother married quiet men who didn’t talk much. Most today would say there was poor communication in their marriage. I never heard them complain about it. Both were home full time and fully financially dependent upon their husbands. They never complained about this either. Their marriages lasted until death did they part.

“The unequal division of domestic chores and childcare responsibilities, even when both partners work full-time, contributes to marital dissatisfaction among women.”

My grandma and mother never complained about any of this. Their husbands worked hard to provide for their families. They knew they were the keepers at home and worked hard in their homes. This issue has caused contention in most marriages. Roles and responsibilities are not clearly defined which causes chaos. God defined the roles for us in His Word so there would be peace in the homes and marriages.

“Infidelity and alcohol addiction are significant factors in many divorces. Women are more likely to cite their husband’s affairs as a reason for divorce, while alcohol abuse leads to stress and decreased marital satisfaction.”

Any type of destructive sins like this make the marriage difficult. I have known women who won their husbands after their husbands committed adultery. They went on to have great marriages. Each situation is different, so I won’t attempt to give every one, but I encourage you to find a godly, older women to meet with on a regular basis for wisdom and encouragement.

“Physical and emotional violence is a major cause of divorce, with women being primary victims more often than men.”

If this describes any of you in your marriage, please read this post about Being Married to an Angry Man.

The words in parenthesis were taken from an article titled Why Women Initiate Divorce More Often Than Men.

Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
1 Peter 3:1-6
