Defending Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar
Jill and Jinger Duggar are advancing the persecution of Christians. They were raised by parents who had strong convictions based upon the Bible. They defined modesty by wearing dresses. They defined being sexually pure by not kissing until the wedding day. There’s nothing wrong with having strong personal convictions based upon biblical commands. They absolutely taught their children the Gospel and that true salvation was through faith in Christ alone, but faith without works is dead since our faith is shown by our works.
Were their parents perfect? No. No parents are perfect, but they did what they felt was best for their family. And no, they weren’t soft on Josh. Jim Bob took him to the police. They did what they felt was necessary at the time to stop their son who had a rebellious heart. Even the most godly parents can have children who rebel against God.
Now, Amazon has a show mocking them and saying their beliefs which were biblical (husbands as head of their wives, wives submitting to their husbands, children obeying parents…) are evil and making false accusations such as the parent’s goal was to force these beliefs on everyone thus making more people disgusted with Christianity.
There are other couples I have watched who were raised with Gothard’s teachings. They had no problems with it. Their parents taught them that Jesus is the only one they worship since all men are fallible. After they were married, they came to their own convictions which is how it should be.
Jinger and Jill should have worked it out privately in their own marriages and with their parents. They’ve come to their own convictions and that’s fine, but to say their childhood was dangerous, they are simply harming the name of Christ and as a result, unbelievers and Satan are rejoicing
Honour thy father and mother which is the first commandment with promise.
