Alistair Begg Believes Women Can Preach in the Churches
Alistair Begg believes women can preach in the churches. This is from his video entitled The Place and Posture of Christian Women:
“‘Well, you did that thing on 1 Timothy 2 and then you had Helen Rose come to the church and she spoke on a Sunday morning, and she’s not allowed to speak on Sunday mornings because of 1 Timothy 2.’ Yes, she’s allowed to speak on Sunday mornings if the elders determined that we’d like
her to. She’s not going to speak as the pastor and the teacher. She is not going to speak in a position of rule and authority, but she has something to say and we like to hear it.” Then he goes on and on trying to justify his position which is not biblical.
Those who believe this, and Nancy Wolgemuth does too, fail to mention the verses in 1 Corinthians 14:
“For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.” (1 Corinthians 14:33-35)
God is very clear that women are to keep silent in the churches, not permitted unto them to speak, commanded to be under obedience, let them ask their husbands at home, and it’s a shame for women to speak in the church. Then in 1 Timothy 2:11, we are told, “Let the women learn in silence with all subjection.” There are NO exceptions in these verses. Biblically qualified men are to be the only teachers and leaders in the churches who speak behind the pulpit and in a church gathering.
Next time someone confronts you about the issue of women preaching in the churches, ask them what biblical qualifications these female preachers have for doing this. There are none. God gives specific qualifications for older women to teach young women biblical womanhood, but that’s it!
The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
Titus 2:3-5
