No Longer Broken

No Longer Broken

There are many songs about how broken we are as Christians, as I am sure you have heard. We sing it in praise songs in church, read about it on blogs and in books, and we hear it from the pulpit. We’re all so broken and a mess…but are we? If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, you are NOT broken. In fact, God calls you a saint.

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
2 Corinthians 5:21

And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and powers.
Colossians 2:10

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.
1 Peter 2:9

Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Romans 6:4

Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours.
1 Corinthians 1:2

And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
1 Corinthians 6:11

For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Galatians 3:27

According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
2 Peter 1:4

You can be a godly, submissive wife because Christ works mightily in and through you (Colossians 1:9). You can have a meek and quiet spirit because He tells us His commands are not burdensome (1 John 5:3). You can be a keeper at home because He promises He will do exceedingly beyond what we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). Your past hurts and sins no longer have to define you since you have been raised from the dead in Christ (Romans 6:4).

There are many more verses about who we are in Christ. Yes, we will have struggles, sufferings, pain, and temptations as long as we live on this fallen planet but we are not broken since Christ has redeemed us with His precious blood and made us whole (Colossians 2:10)! Now, believe it.

  1. Thank you, Lori. I sooooo MUCH needed to hear this today. Please know that I’m continuing to keep your sister and her family covered in prayer. A VERY Merry Christmas to you, Ken, and your entire family!

  2. If I hear another Christian writer/speaker talking about how we are “broken” and “messy,” I will start screaming. It is SO overused. Thank you for pointing out the truth of the matter!!

  3. My sisters and their husbands as well as Ken and I feel the exact same way, Diana. In fact, Ken came up with a plan yesterday. The pastor will be warned beforehand that this will happen next time he tells us how broken we are. Ken and my brothers-in-law will immediately begin to shout out verses, like the ones I listed above, whenever the pastor speaks about our brokenness. I doubt the pastor would ever preach this again and they might just do it. I will keep you posted! 🙂

  4. That truth of being free from sin and being a new creature inhabited by Christ Himself is so freeing! I think that thinking otherwise, like brokenness and “miserableness” and such, lead the child of God to discouragement and depression on the long run…

Thanks a lot, Lori, one more time, for your teachings. Thanks for sacrificing your time and energy to continue to post here daily! I so appreciate! Your blog is a real blessing, a source of encouragement, light, truth, wisdom, with a lot of subjects I know Christ wants me to think about! Thanks a lot, I wish you and your family a blessed and happy Christmas!
    Lots of love!

  5. I’m glad I am not the only one tired of this message. I can’t tell you how many times my church has preached that we are sinful, broken, messed up people with nothing good in us and that our good works are like ‘filthy rags’ to God. While some of these statements are supported by Scripture, it still seems psychologically damaging to have it be the focus in teachings. I also feel guilty when I don’t feel ‘broken’, as if there’s something wrong with me and I need to humble myself more. I will try to remember Christ in me.
