Forcing One’s Convictions on Others

Forcing One’s Convictions on Others

There’s something about women that needs to be addressed. I’ve noticed that women are far more likely to jump on a new “movement” than men are. I’ve done this, so I write from experience. These then become their strong convictions that they want to force upon others, especially their husbands. They want to be the leader in their families.

Now, these convictions aren’t called sin in the Bible, but they try to use the Bible to support their convictions. I will go through a list of some of them here:

Not celebrating Christmas and Easter. There is no command that tells us we cannot celebrate Christ’s birth and resurrection nor is there a command telling us to celebrate these things. These are a Christian’s liberty.

Celebrating the Old Testament Feasts. There’s no command for Christians to celebrate these feasts nor is there a command forbidding Christians from celebrating them. This is a Christian’s liberty to decide.

Going trick-or-treating. There’s no command telling children they can’t dress up in innocent costumes and go to neighbors’ door knocking and asking for candy nor is there a command to do these things. This is a Christian’s liberty.

Circumcision. God gave the command for the Israelites in the Old Testament to circumcise their sons. There is no command for Christians to do this now, and there’s no command forbidding us from this. This is a Christian’s liberty.

Sleep training. There’s no command against this nor for it. It’s our Christian liberty to decide.

Family bed. There’s no command to have one nor is there a command to not have one. It’s our Christian liberty.

I’m sure there are more, but these are the ones that I have seen women become so strong on that they make it a sin issue for all who don’t do it their way. Let your husband decide on these issues, women. He is the leader of the family and will give an account for how he leads his family. If you have a strong conviction about any of these, talk to your husband about it but don’t demand to be right because then you are wrong. You aren’t living in submission to your husband. Feel free to even share these types of convictions with others, but don’t make them into a sin issue.

One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
Romans 14:5
