Female Christian Leaders Making Holy Mischief

“Even women who have been in ministry for years are making ‘holy mischief” and claiming space in male-dominated conservative evangelicalism, engaging Scripture and politics and other topics outside of traditionally ‘safe’ subjects like home and family.” And look at the results: marriages are stronger, women are submissive and respect their husbands, mothers are home raising their children, and dressing modestly. Not.  Teaching “home and family” are not that safe in today’s feminist culture as this article states. What many of these women are teaching is not biblical for women to be teaching; feminism rearing it’s ugly head in Christianity.

Christian women have decided they can take the place of men in leadership and chaos reigns. “I think that we are seeing in lots of areas of American life that some of the traditional structures that served well for a long period of time are no longer doing so. … A time of change means there’s a possibility of new types of leadership and new people doing it,” said the Rev. Katharine Rhodes Henderson. Right there, women, is why you do not want to attend the Belong Tour which this article is about. The Apostle Paul being led by the Spirit of the Holy God specifically said that women are not to be teachers or in authority over men. Any woman with the title of Reverend is disobeying this command. Men are the ones that are supposed to be in leadership positions.

“I’m so excited to be among women who are all about the holy mischief and stirring up things in the world and not doing it safe,” said Sharon Irving, a former “America’s Got Talent” contestant. What about women marrying, bearing children, and being keepers at home? What about having meek and quiet spirits, chaste, discreet, modest, and sober? Do you think any of these things are being taught to all of these women at this conference? Godly womanhood is what women need to here today.

“In the last decade, Nordeman said, Christian women have gained popularity for their teaching and preaching, something that doesn’t necessarily fit into the role women usually play in ministry.” God’s role for the majority of women in ministry is to bear and raise the next generation. There is no greater ministry than raising the next generation of godly offspring.

“‘God’ and ‘faith’ barely are mentioned on its website and promotional materials. Instead, said Reed, Belong’s research showed women wanted to discover and live out their purpose, connect in their relationships and experience a deeper faith. ‘I don’t know if it’s because women’s voices have been uniquely quieted for so long, but it’s really renewing and fresh to watch women sort of rise up and lead and preach and teach and innovate,’ Hatmaker said.” I, for one, don’t want to watch women lead and preach and teach since it’s clearly against the Word. Would you want to go to something that barely mentions the words “God” and “faith” but instead “experience” a deeper faith? God doesn’t care about us “experiencing” a deeper faith, unless if comes through knowing His Word and living in obedience to Him by walking in the Spirit.

All of this to say, “Wake up, women!” Learn from godly older women and learn the Word from godly male preachers as I encourage you over and over again. These women are gaining huge audiences and yet don’t teach the women anything about godly womanhood. Sad, very sad.

“I think we’ll begin to see women lose their marriages, their self worth, intelligence and a whole host of other sad situations, all because of who they are following/serving. As for me and my house we will serve the Lord (with integrity, and pure sincere devotion to the Lord and not the devotion of following false teachers) I pray that God exposes these women for who they are!!” (Julie Williams)

But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2 Peter 2:1

  1. I struggle with this. As a woman who is working (because I am not married and need the health insurance and to finish paying off debt), I do see the need for women to see other women in positive roles. maybe it is wrong and it “makes us feel better about doing the wrong thing” but It does hurt to go to work when I’d rather be home. I don’t have the skills and wouldn’t generate the income needed. I can’t live with my parents (my mother is allergic to dogs and i have two!) and don’t have extended family who can help. i think it just helps to see that women who are in similar situations feel like they are not alone.
Feminism and women in leadership roles really started at the turn of the century and almost into the 20s. We had immigrant families who came to America and their daughters went to work, perhaps as the sole income providers for their families. Then we had a war which put thousands of men out of jobs and into a draft. women had to either work or risk losing homes and income while waiting for their men who may not make it home or even continued working when their husbands came home unable to work. this trend continued as women found pride in their work outside the home and were able to help provide for their families.
when the depression came it seemed as though it was all hands on deck and everyone was trying to find work no matter who they were for however small amount because the whole country was struggling. and then once WW2 came, we had another draft and women once again came back to the workforce to make up for the jobs that were sitting empty with men gone.
it may sound crazy, but it wasn’t just feminism that brought women into the workplace and in leadership roles. the more we look at history the easier it is to see where the patterns come into place with and how these trends continue.
it is no wonder the push for girls and women to be educated and get jobs.

  2. I had never heard of the Belong Tour before, but it sounds like yet another exercise in so-called “Christo-feminism.” Women need Biblical knowledge so we have the discernment to avoid these types of things and warn others to do the same. Thanks, Lori.

  3. I agree since there would have been no need for God to have had instructions for how women are to live if all women just did it naturally. There has always been rebellion to the Lord’s way since sin entered into this world. Being in the home is protection for women, however, if you aren’t married, whatever you do make sure you bring glory to the Lord and aren’t out to make a name for yourself or get into deep debt so that when you do get married, you can hopefully stay home and raise your own children.

  4. in a couple of years i will be able to! i do have my boyfriend and i’m hoping we can get married soon. and no, i’m only doing my job. i have been asked a few times to move up in my position, but i dont want the stress and i don’t really care about being known for my work. it’s not that important!

  5. What on earth is ‘Christo-feminism’? It’s not a term I have heard before.

I have not heard of the Belong Tour, either.

  6. As women, we are very easily deceived by this world we live in and men can be deceived by us. The less we (women) have to do with the world, the better for everyone. Think of how wonderful it would be to take all the energies, passions, and drives these women in this article have and redirect that focus to their families and homes. My goodness, we’d have some fine Proverbs 31 women.
