Quit Playing Footsie With Sodom

SYDNEY SWEENEY IS A P*RN STAR (AGAIN)

Sydney Sweeney is trending again because she posed nude for a sports betting app.

It wasn’t that long ago that she posed seductively in blue jeans for a denim company.

If you recall, many ostensible conservatives applauded those denim ads.

Probably the same people who are defending the topless kissing in Pendragon.

It’s all the same trap set by the same predator, and it’s high time that Christians stopped pretending otherwise.

You need to realize that you are being poisoned by the devil. You live in a sick and demented culture, and if you are not at war with it, then it is making a disciple out of you.

The sportsbook ad is p*rn. “Adult content” is porn. What’s more, the denim ads were p*rn too. The perverse reality is that we live in a day where even a man who is innocently surfing social media is a simple click of the “show” button away from viewing p*rn.

(Sometimes it doesn’t even take a click to view it, and it is just going to get worse. And Christians are participating willingly in this progression.)

And yes, p*rn really is what this is. But we have lost all perspective on what Christian sexual purity should look like.

We have no idea, no concept of how beautiful genuine, pure sex within a covenant marriage between two virgins can be. We have bathed in the sewer for so long that we can’t remember what it was like to be clean- in fact, we don’t even really mind the smell anymore. Or the taste.

“How dare you suggest that the soiled toilet paper clinging to my clothes is a bad thing, you legalist?!? The smell doesn’t bother me, and at least I don’t eat it like Bob over there does!”

We are so drunk on what is “hot” that we have completely forgotten what is lovely- so infatuated with sexy babes that we have forgotten the glory of a virtuous maiden. And I’m talking about conservatives and Christians.

America is so detached from a Christian view of holiness that Christians are defending topless make-out scenes because they “don’t show anything bad.” There are swimsuit calendars specifically marketed to conservative dads. Christian men let their daughters go swimming in public in less than underwear. And we act like this is all normal, and the crazy person is the guy with wild hair, a long beard, and a sign on his chest that says “yet a few more days and Nineveh will be destroyed.”

The people who are outraged about the latest bleeding-edge transgression of the Sodomites are the people who are defending their enjoyment of the bleeding-edge transgression from three years ago.

Friend, you are crazy. You are lost. You might be going to Heaven when you die, but you’re dancing to the devil’s fiddle here on earth, and that does call your salvation into question, because faith without works is dead.

You’ve smoked so much of our sick cultural weed that you can’t think straight anymore.

When the vast majority of people have consumed p*rnography, and many of them are still currently doing so, and this is true of professing Christians, there is no way for that not to affect the morality of a society.

Nor is there any way for it to not end in the same hell from whence it sprung.

“Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways, do not stray into her paths. For many are the victims she has cast down, and numerous are all her slain. Her house is the way to Sheol, descending to the chambers of death.” (Proverbs 7:25-27)

Sydney Sweeney is a pretty corpse. A baited hook. A zombie with makeup. And she is just one of many, many such. She is a wh*re, selling herself for some pocket change, and she is one of millions like her who prowl around the internet and the television set and the smut novel looking for someone to devour.

Yes, a wh*re. And so is every girl selling her body on OnlyFans. And so are the actresses who have no shame about exposing themselves on camera.

Just because you don’t sell your body on the street, but on the streaming service, doesn’t mean you aren’t selling your body. You are still a shameless seductress, and it is wickedness, and it is destructive.

“Moreover, the LORD said, ‘Because the daughters of Zion are proud
And walk with heads held high and seductive eyes,
And go along with mincing steps
And tinkle the bangles on their feet,
Therefore the Lord will afflict the scalp of the daughters of Zion with scabs,
And the LORD will make their foreheads bare.'” (Isaiah 3:16-17)

This describes a lot of conservative and ostensibly Christian women, by the way. Women who have forgotten shame. Women who are not modest maidens or shamefaced matrons, but who think that the gospel of Christ is a license to harlotry and not to holiness, and that “this makes me feel sexy” is justification rather than self-condemnation.

“In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;” (1 Timothy 2:9)

Brothers, you need to smell the rotting flesh in the harlot’s perfume. You need to see the devil’s horns under the perfect hair, and the open sores under the airbrushed skin.

And you need to turn away. Do not pass down the street near her corner. Do not look. Do not click. Do not watch.

You need to hear the sobbing of your children because mommy and daddy got a divorce. You need to feel the regret of your life burning down around you like David after Bathsheba. You need to understand the gnawing cancer in your marriage bed, driven by a thousand impossible expectations and perverse ideas.

May God grant that you hear and feel and understand these things before they become a reality.

“Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good.” (Romans 12:9)

We cannot fight sin if we rebrand it as “no big deal.” We cannot flee temptation if we rebrand it as “doesn’t bother me.”

You don’t have Christian liberty to march along a few steps behind the vanguard of Sodom.

Nakedness and shamelessness- nudity, bikinis, topless kissing scenes, and women posing suggestively in blue jeans- SHOULD bother you. The fact that it does NOT bother you is not a flex.

A man who can pour burning coals on his lap and brag that it doesn’t hurt him as the smell of roasting flesh fills the air. This is not something to be proud of. Something is wrong with him.

“Can a man take fire in his bosom
And his clothes not be burned?
Or can a man walk on hot coals
And his feet not be scorched?
So is the one who goes in to his neighbor’s wife;
Whoever touches her will not go unpunished.” (Proverbs 6:27-29)

“But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Matthew 5:28)

Weren’t you lusting after Sydney? Weren’t you lusting after the half-naked women in Pendragon? Aren’t you lusting after the photos on your Swimsuit Edition calendar in your man cave?

OK. Sure. Whatever.

I’ll grant you that maybe you are so accustomed to swimming in lust-soup that you don’t notice much conscious lusting anymore.

But that’s as impressive as a man so accustomed to the taste of used cat litter that it doesn’t bother him anymore, and he carries around a bag of it to snack on.

The fallout in marriages and in families will be seismic and multi-generational.

Friend, you don’t have to look at p*rn. You don’t have to be a slave to your sin. Come to Jesus. Repent and believe. You can be free.

But you can’t repent of sin that you are busily trying to justify.

“…and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.” (Romans 6:13)

So, men who are reading this. Look me in the eye. Did you look at the photos? Did you click “show” on the “adult content” warning? Did you watch Jeremy Boering’s clip that he posted from Pendragon for your viewing pleasure? Have you been pretending that bikinis don’t bother you?

If the answer is yes, you need to repent. And you need to delete your social media account. And you need to trade in your smartphone for a flip phone.

This is a matter of life or death.

“If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.” (Matthew 5:29)

Ladies, did you read that spicy book last night? Did you enjoy the Sexiest Man Alive photo shoot? Did you fawn and giggle over the shirtless athlete? Did you prance around at the beach this summer in short-shorts and a crop top?

Repent. Get off social media. Burn your smut and your bikinis.

“But sexual immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be mentioned among you, as is proper among saints.” (Ephesians 5:3)

YOU ARE BEING LIED TO. You are drinking the devil’s poison, and telling yourself that you are okay because you are drinking it in a smaller dose than the guy over there who says he is a girl and is having a sexual relationship with his dog.

But he isn’t the standard.

Christ is.

Quit playing games with sin. Quit pretending it isn’t as bad as it is. Quit pretending that the emperor has clothes on. Quit pretending that Netflix isn’t a sewage pipe on your living room wall. Quit allowing the most depraved people in our culture to disciple you and your children. Quit allowing the Proverbs 7 woman to bring her bed to your smartphone. Quit being impressed with yourself for wearing three more inches of cloth on your body than the naked savages do.

If you let your teenage son have a smartphone, you are crazy.

If you let your teenage daughter have social media, you are crazy.

If you think that the shameless, promiscuous gay Marxist feminist blasphemy that Hollywood puts out is no big deal, you are crazy.

“Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them.” (Ephesians 5:11)

We are watching the devil raise a generation of men who are impotent slaves to their lusts and of women who are harlots and harpies.

And Christians are defending his right to do it.

Quit playing footsie with Sodom.

Turn to Jesus.

  1. I loved this post. I’d love to your insights on: I have learned to submit to what my husband asks, and for him he has always asked me to dress less modestly to be slightly more modest than the culture rather than being distracting by being overly modest. That’s just one argument on his side. To be at peace with him, after years of arguing, I have worn the bikinis. Otherwise it’s a huge continuous argument and he is on many levels in many areas truly emotionally abusive (after much prayer, steadying my spirit escalates it- the more calm I am the more he tries to control, so I am quiet and trusting God), but in a subtle covert way that is really hard to have wise counsel address.

Couples counseling with one of our pastors is not going well, he’s victimizing himself and confusing me. I’ve read your posts on how overused terms like emotional abuse are, and I’ve read Created To Be His Helpmeet- but the more I yield to Christ and my husband, the more confused I am feeling. I love the book The Excellent Wife by Martha Peace and am praying through my mindset scripture changes, and how to biblically address church discipline and to be as God has called me. I am still seeking to honor Christ in my oft-rejected, painful, up-down marriage.

I take full ownership of my home, childcare, tongue, and body and am thankful for your blog, having read so much of your content over the years. I am considering individual meetings for myself to keep a sound mind but it’s hard to have pastors see what my husband is doing and his outbursts are infrequent surrounded by good behavior. I feel stuck. We go to a great, Biblical church and have been members for a decade. I’m at a loss, just praying for God to lead and reveal my own sin that I grow in holiness and love. But it is painful, any advice is welcome.

  2. Hi Emily, I am sorry you are going through this. We are promised suffering in this lifetime, but we have a glorious future to look forward to. Here is what I give to women in your situation. Let me know if it encourages you.

Every time he says something cruel to you, put up your shield of faith in front of you and ping those cruel comments straight up to the Lord. Don’t allow him to steal your joy; for the joy of the Lord is your strength. Remember that a soft answer turns away wrath.

Find a godly, older woman whom you can meet with on a regular basis to encourage you and give you wisdom. You can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens you. This means you can do everything that He commands of you. Yes, you can love and submit to him with a meek and quiet spirit. Pour love and grace upon him as Christ does for you. Show him Jesus. He’s most likely miserable and needs to see the joy of Jesus in and through you. Remember, this is a spiritual battle.

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. (Eph 6:16)

  3. When it comes to modesty, my belief is it’s between the husband and wife. The husband sets the standard, but some level of consideration should be taken in depending on the setting. I used to go to a conservative church. One Sunday one of the regular ladies walked in and the front of her top was a touch too low for their liking. She was quickly swarmed by other women who manhandled her and hoisted her top up. It wasn’t even that low. But I know this ladies intent and her husband and he had no issue with the way she dresses. In this case, I believe she should listen to her husband. The women of the church were wrong to confront her in a public setting. If a confrontation was needed, one of the men should have approached her husband in private, giving him the opportunity to correct his wife if needed.

  4. The church I attended for years had a pastor’s wife that dresses sexually. She wore little bikinis to the beach, short shorts to any event, and a tight dress with slits up the thigh to church. The pastor seemed fine with it. I eventually wrote her a letter after much thought and had my husband check it before mailing it. (This type of dressing from her had gone on for years before I had the nerve to write her about it.) She called me back and said it was the men’s fault who looked at her. This is wrong. Sometimes, the older women in the church should exhort an immodestly dressed woman in the church, but it should be done privately and with kindness.

  5. This actually is another reason why I find even kissing scenes in movies problematic: It raises expectations and desensitizes at the same time. And let’s not pretend our emotions are unaffected by seeing a couple kiss on screen! If that were the case, production companies wouldn’t bother including such scenes at all, much less frame them as the satisfying highlight or conclusion of a movie. What do I mean by raising expectations? Well, have you ever seen a happy-end first kiss that was awkward, where the couple was shy or nervous, where the kiss didn’t linger, and that wasn’t accompanied by emotional music? I haven’t in a movie. Such awkward kisses, if shown at all, are usually shown in relationships that are portrayed as “unhealthy”, that by the time the happy end of the movie roles along, have been broken up. Is that a helpful understanding of kissing to bring with you into marriage? Especially if you are saving your first kiss for marriage? What a lot of pressure to put on that first kiss!
