Who Should Preach?
From teaching women’s role in the church gatherings, “Let the women learn in silence with all subjection” (1 Timothy 2:11), and that women are not called to be preachers, pastors, elders, or deacons, many argue with me that women indeed are to preach the Gospel. I then encourage them to read through the Gospels and Acts to find out what preaching is and they will find that not one woman in the Bible ever preached. It was only men.
There are five pages of verses in these books of the Bible with the word “preach” in them. Not one refers to a woman. I will list a few:
In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea. Matthew 3:1
From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Matthew 4:17
And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. Matthew 4:23
And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. Matthew 9:35
Jesus’ commands to his apostles:
And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Matthew 10:27
And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities. Matthew 11:1
The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here. Matthew 12:41
According to God’s Word, the prophets of old preached, John the Baptist preached, Jesus and His apostles (including Paul) preached, and now godly men are called to preach.
In order to preach, one must speak. It’s usually to a gathering of people, whether unbelievers or unbelievers. Street preachers should be men. Preachers in the churches should be men since elders and deacons are to be the “husband of one wife.” God’s Word tells us that His people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Most Christians don’t know what preaching means. Some will accuse me of preaching. I have and never will preach. I teach women biblical womanhood as commanded by God. God has called men to preach the Gospel.
Whereunto I [Paul] am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.
2 Timothy 1:11
