Do Husbands Nag Their Wives?
Do husbands nag their wives? There are three verses in Proverbs about nagging, quarrelsome wives:
Proverbs 21:9 – It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.
Proverbs 21:19 – It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.
Proverbs 27:15 – A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.
Proverbs 25:24 – It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.
Then there are these verses about contentious wives:
Proverbs 19:13 – A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
Proverbs 12:4 – A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.
I can’t find any verses about a husband nagging his wife. Why? It must not be nearly as common for men to nag their wives, but I believe the major reason is that husbands should not have to nag their wives. Godly wives will live in submission to their husbands. They will submit to them and even obey them. When a husband asks his wife to do something, she should do it as soon as possible since God made her husband head over her.
If a wife is married to a disobedient husband, she is to live in subjection to him (submit to him) without a word (no nagging) and win him with her godly behavior. Every night, she should pray for her husband and give all of her concerns about him to the Lord, then trust that the Lord will convict and change her husband. Nagging him will just make their marriage worse.
If your husband is nagging you, it’s because you aren’t doing as he asks. He shouldn’t have to ask you to do something more than once. This is God’s ordained will for you, women. You are your husband’s help meet! This isn’t subjection but God’s perfect plan for you. God can even use your submission to win your husband to yourself and to Him.
Don’t let any of these verses above describe you. Meditate and study His Word daily. Allow Him to transform you into the wife that God has called you to be.
For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
