Granger Smith was a country music star. His life changed after losing his young son to drowning. He was interviewed on Focus on the Family. He said some profound things. He said the business of becoming a star causes “self-exultation, but to what cost to ourselves; losing ourselves in the danger of being worshipped, and it’s the same in any celebrity field: politicians, actors, musicians, pastors, mega pastors, Christian leaders. I would say that it is very dangerous for a man to stay in anything where he is worshipped, exalted, and glorified.” So, he quit, became involved in his church, and is going to seminary.

I have noticed this happening in many areas, as he said. Most famous Christian musicians begin to compromise with the world as they grow in popularity. Most politicians who run on the Republican platform seem to drift into worldliness as they become popular. How about actors? Yes, the vast majority are atheists and support the woke (wicked) agenda of the Left. Some pastors and Christian leaders fall into sin as they gain popularity. They care more about being popular than being faithful to the Lord and His Word.

I’ve watched some of the children from the Duggars and Bates become worldly as their popularity increased, especially the women in the way they dress. They dress just like the world. Those who have won American Idol, like Carrie Underwood, dress and sing sexually while proclaiming themselves to be Christians. The same thing happens to some who gain popularity on social media, like Candace Owens, and others. Even in Scripture, we see how far King David and his son, Solomon, fell with all of their power and fame.

Look at what Instagram, OnlyFans, and TikTok are doing to women. They become more and more popular the less clothes they have on and the more sexually provocative they become. They brag about their fornication and abortions. They are destroying women!

One thing I love about hymns is that none of the writers ever became popular while living. They wrote for the Lord alone, not for the applause and popularity. We aren’t to be living for the world’s applause or to exalt ourselves. Only Christ alone is to be exalted and worshipped.

For some reason, I have never worshipped or exalted anyone but Christ, even as a child. I thought some famous guys were handsome, but I had no desire to have their posters on my bedroom walls and my thoughts be consumed with them.

One thing I have learned is that if you teach Scripture as written and do not water it down at all, you have almost no chance of gaining in popularity and being exalted. People daily put you in your place with their false teaching and come after you with slander and lies. This is why most popular people water down their message, so as not to offend the masses. I would rather offend the masses than be popular and help send people to hell.

The only people I learn from are those who aren’t afraid to speak Truth, the hard Truths of Scripture that offend most but convict others. I want to be challenged and convicted. I don’t want to be coddled. The broad path to hell is full of coddled people. Jump off and get onto the path that leads to life!
