Hiding God’s Word in Your Heart

Hiding God’s Word in Your Heart

Almost every week while my children were growing up I took them to AWANA which stands for “Approved Workmen are Not Ashamed” from 2 Timothy 2:15.  My youngest two children began when they were three years old and went through junior high. My oldest even went a few years in high school. Every week, they had to memorize several verses, sometimes even more. They hid many Bible verses deeply in their hearts.

Most every morning, Ken and I read Morning Evening by Charles Spurgeon and a chapter in the Bible. Yesterday morning, we read Philippians four. It is an amazing chapter with so many great verses to memorize and hide deeply in our hearts. Why should we memorize God’s Word? “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee” (Psalm 119:11).

Here are the verses from Philippians four that I highly encourage you to write down on index cards and memorize. Have your children memorize them also so they won’t sin against the Lord!

Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.

Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Wouldn’t you agree that this chapter written by the Apostle Paul inspired by the Holy Spirit directly from the mouth of God is amazing and life-transforming?!! These verses contain special promises to us and admonitions. He is worthy of our praise!
